Revalorization of cellulosic fiber extracted from the waste stem of Brassica oleracea var. botrytis L. (cauliflower) by characterizing for potential composite applications
This study investigates a protocol for extracting and characterizing fibers obtained from cauliflower (Brassica oleracea var. botrytis L.) stem agricultural waste, exploring its suitability for composite applications. Brassica oleracea var. botrytis L. (BOVBL), commonly known as cauliflower, was comprehensively characterized for the first time, with its fiber extracted from plant waste stems. BOVBL fiber, subjected to microbial degradation, exhibited properties typical of natural fibers, with a density of 1.47 g/cm3 and a composition of 50.09 % cellulose, 19.7 % hemicellulose, and 22.3 % lignin. XPS analysis showed that th...

Designing solidarity cryptocurrency: a path to foster borderless local development
In this study, we draw on the concept oftecnologia social and the design ethnography of an in-the-making solidarity cryptocurrency to propose six design principles and sixteen corresponding strategies for implementing a solidarity cryptocurrency. These design principles provide an initial guide for practitioners and policymakers who seek to create initiatives to scale the socioenvironmental impact of community currencies. The effect of anaerobic digestate as an organic soil fertilizer on the diversity and structure of the indigenous soil microbial and nematode communities
This study addresses how anaerobic digestate modifies soil health when combined with a common chemical fertilizer. Attention was given to soil microbes and, a neglected but of paramount importance soil taxonomic group, soil nematodes. A mesocosm experiment was set up in order to assess the soil's microbial and nematode community. The results demonstrated that the microbial diversity was not affected by the different fertilization regimes, although species richness increased after digestate and mixed fertilization. The composition and abundance of nematode community did not respond to any treatment. Mixed fertilization nota...

Ammonia distribution and ecological risk assessment in nine fresh lakes in China
This study investigated the historical contents of total ammonia nitrogen (TAN) and unionized ammonia molecules (NH3) in nine fresh lakes in China during 2014-2022. Three different classification methods (flood season, season, and geographical distribution) were used to analyze the concentration variation of TAN and NH3. The concentration of TAN first decreased and then increased in the flood season, showing a lower concentration in summer and a higher concentration in winter. The variation trend of NH3 was in an opposite way with TAN. Correlation analysis between ammonia and 10 water quality parameters and 4 pollution emi...
