Resource recovery from soiled sanitary napkin waste-a state-of-the-art review
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2024 Apr 17. doi: 10.1007/s11356-024-33218-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWith ever-improving social and medical awareness about menstrual hygiene in India, the demand for sanitary napkins has increased significantly. The utilization of high-quality and environment-friendly raw materials to produce these pads is further supporting the growth of the market. However, with improving demand and usage, the need for proper disposal techniques becomes more relevant, since all of these pads get contaminated with human blood which makes them a biohazard and can cause significant damage to human health ...

Genes, Vol. 15, Pages 499: Proteomic Analysis of Lysine Acetylation and Succinylation to Investigate the Pathogenicity of Virulent Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato DC3000 and Avirulent Line Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato DC3000 avrRpm1 on Arabidopsis thaliana
In conclusion, this study provides an insightful profile of the lysine acetylome and succinylome in A. thaliana infected with virulent and avirulent lines of Pst DC3000. Our findings revealed the potential impact of these post-translational modifications (PTMs) on the physiological functions of the host plant during pathogen infection. This study offers valuable insights into the complex interactions between plant pathogens and their hosts, laying the groundwork for future research on disease resistance and pathogenesis mechanisms. Do medical devices contribute to sustainability? The role of innovative polymers and device design
Int J Artif Organs. 2024 Apr 15:3913988241245013. doi: 10.1177/03913988241245013. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSustainability of a medical device has not yet become a major issue in public discussions compared to other topics with impact to material performance, clinical application, production economy and environmental pollution. Due to their unique properties, polymers (plastics) allow for multiple, flexible applications in medical device technology. Polymers are part of the majority of disposable and single use medical device and contribute with 3% to the worldwide production of plastics. The global medical polymer mar...

Management of dredged marine sediments in Southern France: main keys to large-scale beneficial re-use
This study provides an overview of the technical and regulatory aspects related to dredged marine sediment management in France and aims to identify and discuss the limits of their valorization. Dredged sediments are mainly composed of particles with heterogeneous grain size, some being known for many applications such as building materials and growing media. However, several reasons have been put forward to explain why these particles are not reused when extracted from dredged sediments. Several technical, socio-economic, and regulatory obstacles explain the low demand for dredged sediments. This demand can be stimulated ...

Synergistic microwave and acidic deep eutectic solvent-based pretreatment of Theobroma cacao pod husk biomass for xylooligosaccharides production
Bioresour Technol. 2024 Apr 12:130702. doi: 10.1016/j.biortech.2024.130702. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe bioconversion of lignocellulosic biomass into novel bioproducts is crucial for sustainable biorefineries, providing an integrated solution for circular economy objectives. The current study investigated a novel microwave-assisted acidic deep eutectic solvent (DES) pretreatment of waste cocoa pod husk (CPH) biomass to extract xylooligosaccharides (XOS). The sequential DES (choline chloride/citric acid, molar ratio 1:1) and microwave (450W) pretreatment of CPH biomass was effective in 67.3% xylan removal with a 52% X...

The perioperative period of heart transplantation is affected by thyroid hormone status
CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that TH status plays a fundamental role in HTx patients, and extended monitoring of TH status in the perioperative period is highly advised as it might contribute to fewer complications and better survival in the short- and long-term.PMID:38613807 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0628 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)
