Long-term effects of aromatase inhibitor withdrawal on bone mineral density in early breast cancer patients: 10-year follow-up results of the BREX study
CONCLUSION: This study is to our knowledge the first to quantify the long-term impact of AI withdrawal on BMD. Bone loss associated with AI therapy seems partially reversible after stopping treatment.TRIAL REGISTRATION: http://www.CLINICALTRIALS: gov/ (Identifier Number NCT00639210).PMID:38561578 | DOI:10.1007/s10549-024-07252-7 (Source: Cancer Control)

Associations of Serum Irisin and Fibroblast Growth Factor-21 Levels With Bone Mineral Characteristics in Eumenorrheic Adolescent Athletes With Different Training Activity Patterns
CONCLUSIONS: Serum irisin and FGF-21 levels were not different between adolescent eumenorrheic girls with different training activity patterns. FGF-21 was positively associated with lumbar spine areal bone mineral density, which predominantly consists of trabecular bone in adolescent rhythmic gymnasts.PMID:38560997 | DOI:10.1123/pes.2023-0166 (Source: Pediatric Exercise Science)

Prevalence of Sarcopenic Obesity According to Different Diagnostic Methods and Cut-Off Points in Candidates for Bariatric Surgery
Sarcopenic obesity (SO) is defined as a combination of low strength and muscle mass along with excess adiposity. Our study aimed to determine the prevalence of sarcopenic obesity in candidates for bariatric surgery, according to ESPEN/EASO criteria using bioimpedance analysis (BIA) and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Association of visceral adipose tissue with albuminuria and interaction between visceral adiposity and diabetes on albuminuria
ConclusionsHigh VFA may represent an independent risk factor for albuminuria. The amount of visceral fat may affect the effect of diabetes on albuminuria. The higher the visceral fat, the stronger the correlation between diabetes and albuminuria should be present. We suppose an additive interaction between VFA and diabetes on the effect of albuminuria. Evaluation Of Socioeconomic Status and Spine Health in Chronic Low Back Pain Using Deep Learning Based Image Analysis
Chronic low back pain (cLBP) is a complex disease with biological, psychological, and social components. The interaction of these components is poorly understood. Socioeconomic status (SES) and disc degeneration are strong indicators of cLBP, yet the explicit relationship between SES and disc degeneration has not been investigated. The purpose of this research is to investigate the relationship between SES and disc degeneration in cLBP. The UK Biobank includes a collection of 50,000 participants with lumbar spine dual x-ray absorptiometry records and SES data. (Source: The Journal of Pain)

Early life poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) levels and adiposity in the first 2 years of life
CONCLUSION: Higher PFAS levels in early life associate with accelerated gain in FM% during the first 6 months of life and with lower FFM SDS at age 2 years, which have been associated with an unfavorable body composition and metabolic profile later in life. Our findings warrant further research with longer follow-up.PMID:38554392 | DOI:10.1093/ejendo/lvae039 (Source: European Journal of Endocrinology)

Deteriorated bone microarchitecture caused by sympathetic overstimulation in pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma
ConclusionsPPGL patients had significantly deteriorated bone microarchitecture and strength, especially in the trabecular bone, with an increased bone resorption rate. Our findings provide clinical evidence that sympathetic overstimulation may serve as a secondary cause of osteoporosis, especially in subjects with increased sympathetic activity. Role of active and environmental tobacco smoke on susceptibility to osteoporosis in women undergoing dual-X-ray absorptiometry
ConclusionThe study results demonstrate an association between passive smoke and Op in community-dwelling women already presenting with susceptibility to Op according to Italian essential assistance levels, suggesting that passive and active smoke are equivalent Op risk factors in women.
