just a question
my 15 daughter developed a nasal obstruction, had septoplasty and the doctor reported that my daughter had the worst adhesions he had ever seen. Within 2 months the adhesions were back, she developed a saddle nose, and she was snoring again. The lining of her nose is lined with sores and bleeds everyday, and she coughs all of the time. My daughter was sent to a Rhinologist who took one look at the lining, said it was allergies and she needed reconstruction. We were sent down the hall to plastics where the doctor took one look at her nose and said that he felt like she had a vasculitis called Wegeners Granulomatosis. She...

momma's intuition
hi all! i'm sure you have a lot of concerned momma's on here asking questions about their babies symptoms. sorry to be another one, but i need some feedback... my son is 20 months old and has had recurrent bouts of wheezing and coughing since the age of 5 months. we have had 2 ER visits and 1 hospital stay (for the flu) last february. at that time a chest x-ray was performed which was read as "bronchiectasis". a follow up scan over a month later once he had recovered from the flu was unchanged. i am a physician assistant and know that bronchiectasis is not a normal or incidental finding. based off of my own res...

Work out regime
Hey everyone, I am brand new to this forum! I just got released from hospital after having a course of IV antibiotics. I have fallen off the band wagon for working out numerous times, however I know how important it is.. I am wondering what is a good work out routine that you found useful? I sometimes cough up blood, but I've been told this is sometimes typical. I look forward to all your help and cant wait to read more on the forums. Pain in belly during pt
Anyone ever have bad pain in their lower pregnant belly while vesting or coughing? If so, did anything help? It seems similar to what people describe as round ligament pain. This is my 3rd pregnancy so I'm thinking perhaps things are just more 'stretched' out? I remember having occasional episodes of pain during coughing or vesting with previous pregnancies, like a sudden twinge that comes and goes. But nothing like this. This is the same spot every day, and if it begins during a pt session its not going away. Also if I lie down a certain way and cough, I'll get the pain. I'm wondering if its just going to be like this ti...

The Council of Dads
I guess, remembering my dad, Jack Burke is a really important memory for me...especially here as I know I got the gift of computers and programming from him. He was an original, a Senior Method Analyst at Prudential Insurance Company back in the 1950s! I grew up with technology and am always amazed at the gift it is especially to this CF community. Dad is smiling as we learn new ways to use technology and any way that it has helped this community. His aunt Kate may always know something, I'll find out in heaven...as she died from a "very bad cough" in the 1930s...which always leaves me to wonder. I love Bruce...

NG Tube Trouble
I'm in the hospital for pneumonia, waiting for transplant. I had an NG tube placed Friday, but it hurt my throat like crazy. Then early Saturday morning I gave one solid cough, and it came out. The thing was still secured in my nose, and a loop of it was sticking out my mouth. I got another one today (Monday) but wondering if anyone else has had this and has any advice for keeping this one in??? (Source: Cystic Fibrosis Transplants Forum)

88 y/o with femoral fracture..crap
On call...88 y/o from Mexico who rarely gets out of bed comes in for a femoral neck fracture that needs repaired (apparently). My resident tells me he doubts this gentlemen's mental capacity is good enough for anything reliable. He told the ER he was DNR, but he tells us he can't remember ever saying that. Anyway, our online computer system has NO RECORD of anything on this guy and he doesn't know much about his medical history. Somehow the fleas and rats are able to dig up some information. COPD with recent increase in cough and sputum production. 95% on 2L NC. On a bunch of inhalers. B cell lymphoma IVC filter ...

Abby Clinic Update
I have updated everyone on facebook but I haven't been on here in quite some time because I have been on my first Vacation since Abby was diagnosed. I actually got to take my full 2 weeks and didn't have to spend my entire vacation at the hospital!!! It was fantastic!!! It would have been better had we have not been broke but still loving life with Kalydeco!!! So Abby has been taking Kalydeco since June 28, 2012. We went to clinic a couple of weeks ago and discovered that we had a completely new CF team! Dr was gone...fellow leaving...and nurse had a baby and not coming back. Wow!! So here is the comparison: ........

CPT Advice... Use a Regular Massager?
I have no insurance and am super duper "broke" thanks to tons of medical bills, so was thinking about using a regular percussive hand massager (meant for shoulders and neck) on my ribs and lung area to encourage cough when no one is available to help with CPT, and/or I'm doing my neb, and/or need to clear my airways. Thoughts? Has anyone ever used a non-medical type of tool just because it's better than nothing? xoxo : ) (Source: Cystic Fibrosis Airway Clearance Techniques Forum)

Fev's up but switching meds??

Hi! It's been a while since I have posted anything but I always read these forums. I was wondering, my daughter's pfts were the best they have ever been at fev 112%. I was floored!! She had just been on prednisone for 5 days but still! Anyways, she keeps having episodes of needing to be on steroids so the pulmo thinks we need to change her meds from advair to symbicort. What I dont understand is why if her pfts were so good? Why would she keep having these "episodes" if her asthma is improving?? Or if her lungs were so open and clear??

Short history: She ...

Battling a cold: Should I give a decongestant to 2 yo?
My son, 23 months old, is currently battling what seems to be a cold. It may or may not be related to teething (2 year molars). I noticed the symptoms beginning Thursday. It started with what sounded like post nasal drip (he was swallowing hard). Then his cough increased and he developed a small temp (99.8). His eyes appeared glassy and he has occasionally sneezed. Last night he did not sleep well, cryed out in his sleep on and off. I can hear the mucous is his sinuses as he sleeps. I'm thinking a decongestant or antihistamine would help dry it up so he can sleep but would that be undoing what the hypertonic sal...
