Challenging gestational trophoblastic disease cases and mimics: An exemplar for the management of rare tumours
CONCLUSION: The National GTD service could be an exemplar for the management of rare tumours (such as cholangiocarcinoma) in our jurisdiction which could benefit from a similar constellation of supports. Our study demonstrates the importance of a nominated national clinical lead, dedicated nurse navigator support, registration of cases and networking. The impact of our service would be greater if registration was mandatory rather than voluntary. Such a measure would also ensure equity of access for patients to the service, assist in quantifying the need for resourcing and facilitate research to improve outcomes.PMID:372247...

Management of trophoblastic tumors : review of evidence, current practice, and future directions
Expert Rev Anticancer Ther. 2023 May 17. doi: 10.1080/14737140.2023.2215438. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN) is a group of rare tumors characterized by abnormal trophoblastic proliferation following pregnancy including ; invasive moles, choriocarcinomas and intermediate trophoblastic tumors (ITT). Although the treatment and follow-up of GTN has been heterogeneous, globally the emergence of expert networks has helped to harmonize its management.AREAS COVERED: We provide an overview of the current knowledge, diagnosis, and management strategies in GTN and discuss innovati...

MR"I": An "eye" for the preoperative diagnosis of ectopic molar pregnancy, a case report
J Family Med Prim Care. 2023 Mar;12(3):581-585. doi: 10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_1770_22. Epub 2023 Mar 17.ABSTRACTHydatidiform mole (complete and partial), invasive mole, choriocarcinoma, placental site trophoblastic disease, and epithelioid trophoblastic tumour constitute the spectrum of benign and malignant gestational trophoblastic disease[1] Invasive mole, choriocarcinoma, placental site trophoblastic disease, and epithelioid trophoblastic tumour also classify under gestational trophoblastic neoplasia.[1] The prevalence of molar pregnancy shows great worldwide variation with reported rates of 12 per 1,000 pregnancies in Indon...

Atypical presentations of ectopic pregnancies in a rural tertiary care hospital-A case series
J Family Med Prim Care. 2023 Mar;12(3):590-593. doi: 10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_623_22. Epub 2023 Mar 17.ABSTRACTIn spite of advances in medical sciences, diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy eludes the clinician. In this case series, we describe three variants of life-threatening pregnancies. The successful management of these cases hinged on a strong index of suspicion and early detection. Heterotopic pregnancy is the occurrence of two pregnancies in different implantation sites at the same time, which is uncommon. Heterotopic pregnancy is uncommon in natural conception, despite its prevalence in assisted reproductive technologies. A...

Placental site trophoblastic tumor (PSTT): a case report and review of the literature
We present a case of PSTT in a 25-year-old woman. Neoplastic cells showed moderate/high nuclear pleomorphism, abundant amphophilic, eosinophilic and clear cytoplasm, numerous mitotic figures (10 mitoses/10 HPF), and myometrial invasion. Other features are necrosis, vascular invasion with replacement of myometrial vessels by tumor cells and hemorrhage. The patient showed typical low serum β-hCG levels and high serum humane placental lactogen (hPL) levels.PMID:37114629 | DOI:10.32074/1591-951X-873 (Source: Pathologica)
