Exploring the sexual experiences and challenges of individuals with cerebral palsy
J Pediatr Rehabil Med. 2024 Mar 22. doi: 10.3233/PRM-240006. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE: Cerebral palsy (CP) is a prevalent motor disorder affecting children, with evolving demographics indicating an increasing survival into adulthood. This shift necessitates a broader perspective on CP care, particularly in addressing the often overlooked aspect of sexuality. The purpose of this study was to investigate experiences of, challenges with, and related factors of sexuality and intimacy that people with CP are facing.METHODS: This was a descriptive and cross-sectional single institution survey among individuals with ...

Facial palsy after administration of immune checkpoint inhibitors: case report, literature review and clinical care management
Neurological immune-related adverse events (irAEs) due to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) are rare complications of immunotherapy, particularly dreadful for patients and clinical teams. Indeed, neurological irAEs are potentially severe and their diagnosis require prompt recognition and treatment. Additionally, the spectrum of neurological irAEs is broad, affecting either neuromuscular junction, peripheral or central nervous system. Here, we described the case of a 55-year man with metastatic melanoma, facing a brutal right peripheral cerebral palsy after his third ipilimumab/nivolumab infusion. After the case presentati...

Relationship Between Postural Asymmetry, Balance, and Pain in Children With Spastic Cerebral Palsy
Primary symptoms of cerebral palsy (CP), such as spasm and weakness, can lead to secondary musculoskeletal problems. Exploring the interplay and impact of secondary symptoms is essential in CP management. (Source: Pediatric Neurology)

Cognitive approaches in the rehabilitation of upper limbs function in children with cerebral palsy: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Cognitive therapies provided with encouraging results in the recovery of upper limb motor functions, although not a clinical effect in bimanual or unimanual performance; they could represent a valid therapeutic solution integrated to conventional rehabilitation in the treatment of upper limb motor impairment in children with CP.PMID:38512713 | DOI:10.23736/S1973-9087.24.08288-1 (Source: European Journal of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine)

The Alberta Infant Motor Scale as an Outcomes Measure of Gross Motor Abilities after Early Complex Cardiac Surgery
AbstractTo address the research hypothesis that the Alberta Infant Motor Scale (AIMS) completed following complex cardiac surgery (CCS) is a useful outcomes measure this study determined: (1) AIMS scores at age 8  months after CCS; (2) predictive validity of AIMS at 8 months for Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development-III Gross Motor-scaled scores (GMSS) and diagnosis of cerebral palsy (CP) at 21 months; and (3) predictive demographic and surgical variables of AIMS scores. A prospective cohort stu dy of 250/271 (92.3%) surviving children from Northern Alberta (born 2009–2020) who had CCS at age <  6 mo...

Risk Factors for Term-Born Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy: A Case Control Study
Antenatal (pregnancy complications, maternal disease, substance use) and perinatal (infections, cesarian section, and perinatal adversity) risk factors are associated with an increased risk of SDCP in term-born children, suggesting variable interactions between risk factors to provide a clinicopathologic framework that is different from SDCP observed in preterm-born children.
