Disability diagnosis during residency
Hello guys, Im a PGY3 in a surgical subspeciality and recently received a diagnosis of cerebral palsy. I never had any problems with surgery and dexterity and I operate sit down, so that its not an issue in my area. I always had a slightly different gait, on toes, but nothing dramatic or that looked disabled, but after I saw a video of my gait I looked for an ortho, and then a neuro, and it came out as that. After some months of PT the limp is undectable, but I worry about the repercussions... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

My case today Cerebral palsy, impossible spinal, bad pulmonary function
22 year old 66 lbs 3’2 ft, with bad cerebral palsy, non verbal, badly contracted limbs, spine literally on the side with the worst kyphosis and scoliosis I have ever seen. Had a femur fracture a month ago, had a bout with multi resistant pneumonia which lef him with a bad Pulmonar function (which was bad to begin with due to his condition). Last week was scheduled for a femoral nail. I was not present but the attending then said meddling with the airway was out of the way, and just could... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Would conductive education be considered clinical volunteering?
Hi everyone, super simple question. I'm working as a volunteer at a conductive education program that helps both teach (as in a classroom setting) and physically help babies to senior individuals who are diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Parkinson's, and other neurological motor disabilities. I also do help with taking students to the bathroom, learning more about motor disabilities, and assisting them with physical activities. Conductive education isn't a fairly common thing in... Decision Help: Masters in Human Anatomy, MSBS, or post-bacc?
Hi All, Background: I am 2 years removed from my undergraduate studies where I graduated with a 3.488 cGPA and a 3.42 sGPA. I had a hiccup with a 2.89 GPA my second to last semester and followed it with a 3.95 GPA. I decided to get a job in my local hospital after graduation as an OR Assistant and have since moved on to working as an anesthesia technician (roughly 2 years full time), while continuing my work with an individual who has cerebral palsy (~3000 hrs). My work in the hospital has... Decision Help: Masters in Human Anatomy, MSBS, or post-bacc? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Caregiver for client with CP: activity classification
For the past 4 years I have been working as a caregiver for a client with cerebral palsy. My duties include feeding him his meals with his medications and supplements, cleaning him up if he soils himself, bathing, assisting with his physical therapy exercises, and socializing with him in and out of his house. I am wondering if this would count as clinical experience or not? I don't think it will make much of a difference in my application if it is or isn't. I have plenty of clinical... DPT Shadowing Hours: Hours from High School? Hours from an MD?
2 questions about Shadowing hours for DPT programs (FOR PTCAS) If you have shadowing hours from high school (senior year) 2015 from a PT, can you use this in PTCAS for an application for the 2018-2019 cycle? They are 20 hours of pediatrics shadowing hours at a cerebral palsy institute. Is it frowned upon since they are so old? Is it okay to input shadowing hours from different areas related to PT, like general orthopedics? Obviously stating that it was a MD that I... DPT Shadowing Hours: Hours from High School? MCAT accommodations-double time
Hi all, I'm taking the MCAT in a few months and applying for double time. I've heard it's very hard to get. I was wondering if anyone had received it? If so, what did you do? I have cerebral palsy, ADD, anxiety, reading comprehension issues, vision problems and learning disabilities that were a result of a grade IV IVH. I have always gotten double time in college (and have had accommodations since pre-school-I used to get unlimited time because the system through my district just handled...
