Community evaluation of the physical and insecticidal durability of DuraNet ® Plus, an alpha-cypermethrin and piperonyl butoxide incorporated mosquito net: protocol for a multi-country study in West, Central and East Africa
ConclusionThis large-scale multi country trial will provide useful information on the durability of a pyrethroid-PBO net (DuraNet ® Plus) in 3 different regions in sub-Saharan Africa. The methods proposed for bioefficacy testing could also contribute towards the development of new standardised guidelines for monitoring the insecticidal efficacy of pyrethroid-PBO nets under operational conditions. Haptoglobin gene polymorphism and iron profile in sickle cell disease patients with inflammation in Yaounde, Cameroon
ConclusionThis study demonstrates a higher frequency of genotypeHP 1-1 followed by theHP 2-2 genotype in patients with major sickle cell syndromes. However, a larger proportion of patients with genotypeHP 2-2 are associated with hematological profile disorders, inflammation, and dysregulation of iron metabolism. Then, the haptoglobin polymorphism contributes to the severity of major sickle cell syndromes. (Source: Molecular Genetics & Genomic Medicine)

Rheumatology in Cameroon: History, Challenges, and Future
J Rheumatol. 2023 Nov 15:jrheum.2023-0955. doi: 10.3899/jrheum.2023-0955. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRheumatology is a medical specialty that deals with diseases of bones, joints, tendons, and muscles. It is a relatively young specialty in sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in Cameroon. We believe that current and future generations need to know the history and challenges of rheumatology in Cameroon, which not only is a mainstay of Central Africa but also reflects many other health systems in sub-Saharan Africa, to properly identify the challenges facing this specialty and define appropriate strategies for developing coun...

First Insight into Drug Resistance Genetic Markers, Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase and Phylogenetic Patterns of Misdiagnosed Plasmodium vivax Malaria in Far North Region, Cameroon
This study aimed at characterizing drug resistance genes, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase gene (G6PD), and phylogenetic patterns of a Pv + Pf co-infection misdiagnosed as a Pf mono-infection in the Far North region of Cameroon. Only one non-synonymous mutation in the pvdhps gene A383G was found. Pv drug resistance gene sequences were phylogenetically closer to the reference SAL-I strain and isolates from Southeast Asia and Western Pacific countries. Analyzing co-infecting Pf revealed no resistance mutations in Pfmdr1 and Pfk13 genes, but mutations in Pfcrt (C72V73I74E75T76) and Pfdhfr-Pfdhps genes (A16C50I51R59N108L164 -...
