One-pot RPA-Cas12a assay for instant and visual detection of Burkholderia pseudomallei
Anal Chim Acta. 2023 Apr 29;1252:341059. doi: 10.1016/j.aca.2023.341059. Epub 2023 Mar 6.ABSTRACTBurkholderia pseudomallei is the causative agent of melioidosis, a potentially life-threatening infectious disease, and poses public health risks in endemic areas. Due to the high mortality, intrinsic antibiotic resistance, and atypical manifestations, establishing a rapid, accurate, and sensitive identification of B. pseudomallei enables earlier diagnosis, proper treatments, and better outcomes of melioidosis. Herein, we present a One-Pot CRISPR-integrated assay for Instant and Visual Detection (termed OPC-IVD) of B. pseudomal...

Craniospinal MRI Findings in Neuromelioidosis
Conclusion: Melioidosis can present as multiple micro-abscesses in the brain. Involvement of the trigeminal nucleus and extension along the corticospinal tract may raise the possibility of infection by B. pseudomallei. Meningitis and dural sinus thrombosis, although rare, can be presenting features. (Source: Neurology India)

Double-trouble: A rare case of co-infection with melioidosis and leptospirosis from Sri Lanka
Trop Doct. 2023 Feb 20:494755231156490. doi: 10.1177/00494755231156490. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMelioidosis and leptospirosis are two emerging tropical infections that share somewhat similar clinical manifestations but require different methods of management. A 59-year-old farmer presented to a tertiary care hospital with an acute febrile illness associated with arthralgia, myalgia and jaundice, complicated by oliguric acute kidney injury and pulmonary haemorrhage. Treatment was initiated for complicated leptospirosis but with poor response. Blood culture was positive for Burkholderia pseudomallei and microscopic agg...

NHP BurkPx: A multiplex serodiagnostic bead assay to monitor < i > Burkholderia pseudomallei < /i > exposures in non-human primates
Conclusion/SignificanceWe employed a previously standardized assay for humans, the BurkPx assay, and assessed its diagnostic potential for detection ofB.pseudomallei exposure in NHP. The assay is expected to be useful for surveillance in NHP colonies, in investigations of suspected accidental releases or exposures, and for identifying vaccine correlates of protection. Melioidosis in Cynomolgus Macaques ( < em > Macaca Fascicularis < /em > ) Imported to the United States from Cambodia
Comp Med. 2022 Dec 1;72(6):394-402. doi: 10.30802/AALAS-CM-22-000024.ABSTRACTMelioidosis, a potentially fatal infectious disease of humans and animals, including nonhuman primates (NHPs), is caused by the high-consequence pathogen Burkholderia pseudomallei. This environmental bacterium is found in the soil and water of tropical regions, such as Southeast Asia, where melioidosis is endemic. The global movement of humans and animals can introduce B. pseudomallei into nonendemic regions of the United States, where environmental conditions could allow establishment of the organism. Approximately 60% of NHPs imported into the U...
