Burkholderia pseudomallei Laboratory Exposure, Arizona, USA
We describe an incidental Burkholderia pseudomallei laboratory exposure in Arizona, USA. Because melioidosis cases are increasing in the United States and B. pseudomallei reservoirs have been discovered in the Gulf Coast Region, US laboratory staff could be at increased risk for B. pseudomallei exposure.PMID:37081593 | DOI:10.3201/eid2905.221865 (Source: Emerging Infectious Diseases)

< em > In vitro < /em > effect of the iron chelator deferiprone on the antimicrobial susceptibility and biofilms of < em > Burkholderia pseudomallei < /em >
This study evaluated the effect of the iron chelator deferiprone (DFP) on antimicrobial susceptibility and biofilm formation and maintenance by Burkholderia pseudomallei. Planktonic susceptibility to DFP alone and in combination with antibiotics was evaluated by broth microdilution and biofilm metabolic activity was determined with resazurin. DFP minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) range was 4-64 µg/mL and in combination reduced the MIC for amoxicillin/clavulanate and meropenem. DFP reduced the biomass of biofilms by 21 and 12% at MIC and MIC/2, respectively. As for mature biofilms, DFP reduced the biomass by 47%, 59%,...

One-pot RPA-Cas12a assay for instant and visual detection of Burkholderia pseudomallei
Anal Chim Acta. 2023 Apr 29;1252:341059. doi: 10.1016/j.aca.2023.341059. Epub 2023 Mar 6.ABSTRACTBurkholderia pseudomallei is the causative agent of melioidosis, a potentially life-threatening infectious disease, and poses public health risks in endemic areas. Due to the high mortality, intrinsic antibiotic resistance, and atypical manifestations, establishing a rapid, accurate, and sensitive identification of B. pseudomallei enables earlier diagnosis, proper treatments, and better outcomes of melioidosis. Herein, we present a One-Pot CRISPR-integrated assay for Instant and Visual Detection (termed OPC-IVD) of B. pseudomal...
