The role of viral diagnostic tests in respiratory tract infections: moving forward
The objective of this panel was to define the plausible role of aetiologic viral diagnostic into clinical management; make recommendations on the potential expanded use of such tests in the future and define some gaps in the management of RTI. Molecular Infection Viral Diagnostic (mIVD) tests should be used in all adult patients admitted to Hospital with RTI, and in paediatric patients requiring admission or who would be referred to another hospital for more specialised care. The increased use of mIVD will not only reduce the inappropriate use of antibiotics so reducing the antibiotic microbe resistance, but also will impr...

Deciphering carbon dioxide fluxes and interactions in the Ganga river Basin of South Asia
In this study, we computed the partial pressure of CO2 (pCO2) using the carbonate equilibria-based model (pCO2SYS) and examined its correlation with hydrochemical parameters from historical records at 91 stations spanning 2013-2021 in the Ganga River. The investigation unveiled substantial spatial heterogeneity in the pCO2 across the Ganga River. The pCO2 concentration varied from 1321.76 μatm, 1130.98 μatm, and 1174.33 μatm in the upper, middle, and lower stretch, respectively, with a mean of 1185.29 μatm. Interestingly, the upper stretch exhibited elevated mean pCO2 and FCO2 levels (fugacity of CO2: 3.63 gm2d-1) comp...

Bio-QSARs 2.0: Unlocking a new level of predictive power for machine learning-based ecotoxicity predictions by exploiting chemical and biological information
Environ Int. 2024 Apr 4;186:108607. doi: 10.1016/j.envint.2024.108607. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPractical, legal, and ethical reasons necessitate the development of methods to replace animal experiments. Computational techniques to acquire information that traditionally relied on animal testing are considered a crucial pillar among these so-called new approach methodologies. In this light, we recently introduced the Bio-QSAR concept for multispecies aquatic toxicity regression tasks. These machine learning models, trained on both chemical and biological information, are capable of both cross-chemical and cross-species...

A Mixed-Methods Evaluation of Mainstreaming Mass Drug Administration for Schistosomiasis and Soil-Transmitted Helminthiasis in Four Districts of Nigeria
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2024 Apr 9:tpmd230600. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.23-0600. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn Nigeria, mass drug administration (MDA) for schistosomiasis (SCH) and soil-transmitted helminthiasis (STH) has often been coordinated with other programs that receive greater external funding. As these programs reach stop MDA milestones, SCH and STH programs will likely need to transition implementation, or "mainstream," to domestic support. A mixed-methods study was conducted in four districts before (2021) and after (2022) mainstreaming to evaluate its impact on MDA coverage. Household surveys were done in 30 villages p...
