Characteristics and risk factors of axillary lymph node metastasis of microinvasive breast cancer
ConclusionLow ALNM rate (4.1%) suggests that routine SLNB for patients with MIBC is unnecessary but  can be valuable for patients with specific risk factors. Ongoing trials for omitting SLNB in early breast cancer, and further subanalyses focusing on rare populations with MIBC are necessary. (Source: Breast Cancer Research and Treatment)

From quantitative metrics to clinical success: assessing the utility of deep learning for tumor segmentation in breast surgery
ConclusionWe present a clinical evaluation of deep learning models trained for intraoperative tumor segmentation in breast-conserving surgery. We demonstrate that automatic contouring is limited in predicting pathology margins despite achieving high performance on quantitative metrics. The usefulness of artificial intelligence in breast reconstruction: a systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: In breast reconstruction, AI can help the surgeon by optimizing the perioperative patients' counseling to predict negative outcomes, allowing execution of timely interventions and reducing the postoperative burden, which leads to obtaining the most successful results and improving patient satisfaction.PMID:38619786 | DOI:10.1007/s12282-024-01582-6 (Source: Breast Cancer)

Significant improvement in paraneoplastic neurological syndromes without identifiable anti-neural antibodies in patients with breast cancer after breast surgery
We report a case in which neurological symptoms significantly improved after surgical treatment for breast cancer. The patient was a 78-years-old woman with subacute progressive cerebellar ataxia. A subsequent diagnosis of breast cancer led to the diagnosis of “PNS probable”. A comprehensive search for anti-neural antibodies was negative in all cases. The quantitative index of the Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score, a standard evaluation method for ataxia in spinocerebellar degeneration, improved after breast cancer surgery. Th is case may provide a rationale for treating breast cancer patients ...

Revisiting The Nipple-Areola Complex: A Study on Aesthetic Preferences
The nipple-areola complex (NAC) is a focal aesthetic subunit of the breast, and the size and placement of the NAC is a component of both reconstructive and aesthetic breast surgery. In patients undergoing NAC reconstruction following mastectomy, NAC position is informed by the size and shape of the breast mound and the surgeon ’s aesthetic judgment. Patient perspectives toward the aesthetic NAC positioning, size, and pigmentation are not well understood. Prior investigations have been limited in their evaluation of cosmetic permutations. Post-breast Surgery Pain Syndrome
AbstractPurpose of ReviewPost-breast surgery pain syndrome (PBSPS) is a clinical diagnosis referring to chronic pain following breast cancer surgery. PBSPS affects approximately 25 to 60% of women who undergo breast surgery and can have a substantial impact on quality of life and overall functional ability. We aim to describe and analyze the latest findings in the medical literature regarding clinical patients, preventive efforts, and current and novel treatment techniques of PBSPS.Recent FindingsEarly and multidisciplinary interventions, including pharmacologic, interventional, physical, and psychological therapies, have ...

Is Immediate Breast Reconstruction With a Latissimus Dorsi Myocutaneous Flap Safe for Starting Adjuvant Chemotherapy in Patients With Breast Cancer?
CONCLUSION: Major postoperative complications significantly delayed initiation of adjuvant chemotherapy in oncological patients who underwent radical breast surgery followed by immediate reconstruction with a latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap and silicone implants.PMID:38582616 | DOI:10.1016/j.clbc.2024.03.003 (Source: Clinical Breast Cancer)
