Bilateral inflammatory recurrence of HER-2 positive breast cancer: a unique case report and literature review
Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is an aggressive and rare form of breast cancer with a poor prognosis. The occurrence of bilateral IBC in a short period of time is extremely rare. In this case report, a 54-year-old woman diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma of the left breast underwent lumpectomy, lymph node dissection, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy but opted against trastuzumab treatment. Four years later, she experienced bilateral breast inflammation, skin changes, edema, and heat (calor). Biopsies confirmed breast cancer metastasis to both breasts. Whole-Exome Sequencing revealed genetic mutations, including PIK3C...

Stage I Breast Cancer in the Modern Era: A Retrospective Cohort Study of 328 Patients Diagnosed from 2002 to 2006 with a 14- year Median Follow-Up
CONCLUSION: The study results emphasize the importance of long-term follow-up and screening for subsequent malignancies of patients with stage I BC and support the need for using prognostic and predictive indicators beyond the routine clinicopathological characteristics in luminal-A patients.PMID:38185110 | DOI:10.1159/000536119 (Source: Oncology)

Second Malignancy Probabilities in Patients With Breast Cancer Treated With Conventional Versus Hypofractionated External Beam Radiation Therapy in the Adjuvant Setting
CONCLUSIONS: In this analysis of over 120 000 women with non-metastatic breast cancer, hEBRT was not associated with different odds of developing second malignancies compared with cEBRT. Our findings may inform patient counselling in the choice of radiation regimens for breast cancer and further support the safety of hypofractionated regimens for breast cancer.PMID:38184401 | DOI:10.1016/j.clon.2023.12.002 (Source: Clinical Breast Cancer)

The Effect of Wire vs Magnetic Seed Localization on Lumpectomy Cavity Size
CONCLUSIONS: There was no significant difference in CT cavity size by localization technique, suggesting choice between surgical techniques does not impede radiotherapy boost delivery.PMID:38161002 | DOI:10.1016/j.prro.2023.12.004 (Source: Ann Oncol)

Mode of Detection of Second Breast Cancers in Patients Undergoing Surveillance After Treatment of Ductal Carcinoma in Situ
CONCLUSIONS: In our cohort of patients undergoing surveillance following diagnosis and treatment of DCIS, 2% of second breast cancers were detected by a clinical breast examination. This suggests that survivorship care should prioritize mammography and patient education regarding breast self-examination and symptoms that warrant evaluation to detect second breast cancers.PMID:38154251 | DOI:10.6004/jnccn.2023.7082 (Source: Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network : JNCCN)

A single-institution retrospective evaluation of noninvasive localization for non-palpable breast microcalcification
CONCLUSION: Our non-invasive method of preoperative localization is safe and cost-effective. Furthermore, initial observations suggest that there may be a link between age and malignant microcalcification.PMID:38143169 | DOI:10.1016/j.asjsur.2023.12.086 (Source: Asian Journal of Surgery)
