Questions About NCC
I have been learning more about what fellowship paths there are post neuro residency, and I came across NCC. Just an M1, but I had a few questions about it. Is NCC a competitive fellowship, similar to cards/GI/PCCM/heme onc? i.e. will I need to be coming from an academic program? Or is this something I’ll be able to match given I’m a decent resident who works hard? How is the job market for NCC? Is this a niche field with only a few amount of jobs available, or is it a growing field? From... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Do I have a chance to MD/PhD?
I’m an international student. I’ve applied to medical schools 1-2 years ago but withdrew my applications because I had no way of funding the education and I’m not eligible for big loans because of my status. I graduated from a UC in 2020 with 3.54 with a double major in neuroscience and anthropology. I have 3 years of work experience (1.5 years as a medical assistant and 1.5 as a clinical research assistant). I also have 3 years of bench research in undergrad that resulted in 2 journal... Neuromuscular fellowship application thread 2024
Haven't seen any other thread up anywhere (there aren't very many of us), so with today being the first day programs can see our applications I thought I'd throw one up to see if anyone out there wants to discuss this current cycle. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Deciding between NCC and Stroke
Hey all I am a current PGY2 and struggling to decide between neuro-critical care and stroke. I would ideally practice both but would preferably avoid doing both fellowships. My interest in stroke initially propelled me into neurology. I've realized though that stroke also often deals with a high number of functional patients which I don't enjoy as much, and being in the neuro ICU has the satisfaction of dealing with patients that are all very truly ill. I think another pro of NCC is that... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Would 10m liquid assets and being under 50 be enough for you to walk away or would you miss it too much?
Curious as to achieving that number at an age ( sub 50) where you can still maintain nearly all of your physicality how many would continue to work for the pure joy in the OR vs finding a new endeavour teaching, mission work, travel etc. I think its widely assumed that no one is going to flat out retire and plop their feet on the couch and let their brains rot from streaming, facebook, and tik tok. Neuropsych Internship chances
Hi all! Long time lurker, first time poster. I am a current 5th year in my program's clinical psychology program. I found neuropsychology a little late (around halfway through my third year), thoroughly enjoyed it, and decided to go for it full force. As such, I took an extra year to give myself another year for neuropsych training. For intervention, I have done my hours at my program's clinic, PP, and an LGBTQ community mental health center. For assessment, I have completed neuropsych... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Letters of Recommendation
Planning to apply to DR this year and I had a question regarding letters that I can use. I understand that I need 1 DR letter. However, I also can get 2 IR letters and a neurology letter. Would 2 IR letters be fine or should I use the neuro letter as well (1 IR +1 neuro)? I can get a medicine letter but I'd have to do another rotation. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Research
Hello all! I am interested in IM or Neurology at the moment. My only meaningful research was during my gap year before medical school where I received one publication, I have nothing so far in medical school. Is second year the appropriate time to start doing more research or will there be more opportunities during my clinical years? I know neuro is not a research-heavy field, but as a DO I want some solid structure to my residency application. Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Wayne State vs Western Michigan vs George Washington (WL)
Hi all, would greatly appreciate some insight! I haven't heard much about any school and would love to know more students' opinions! I'm most interested in acute care specialties like EM, surgery, anesthesiology, pulm/neuro critical care, etc. All three schools have about the same tuition (~70k), cost of living, pass/fail grading, and a near 99% match rate. My top factors are: 1. a patient-centered curriculum 2. a supportive school community (faculty and students). 3. community service... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Cornell vs. Yale vs. Northwestern
Hi Everyone! I'm extremely grateful to have the opportunity to choose between these schools and would appreciate any and all advice. A little bit about me: I come from a low-income, first-gen, immigrant parent background (Latin America), so finances and being at a diverse school/city are extremely important to me. Interested in pursing neurosurgery (significant personal/scientific experiences) and academic medicine. Neurology if I decide surgery isn't for me lol. I'm also especially... Post Cervical mbnb HA/dizziness
I have a patient who I did bilateral c3-5 medial branch blocks approximately 2 weeks ago. Procedure was relatively uncomplicated. States it’s somewhat positional, no fevers, neuro deficits. Have any of you seen this before and had any... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is this LOR considered a Science LOR?
Hi all, I am having so much trouble finding a second science LOR writer. It is 100% my fault, I went to a big university and graduated, and since a lot of classes were online due to COVID, I never took initiative to get really close to professors. I have one solid science LOR, from a neuroscience professor. I have another potential LOR writer, who taught a Language Science class that went towards my neuroscience degree. Would this letter from my language class professor be considered a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
