How practical is it for a neurologist to practice ophthalmology?
How practical is it for a neurologist to practice ophthalmology in the office? Some neuro-ophthalmologists did their training as a neurologist then did a neuro-ophthalmology fellowship. This is not too unusual. What if a neurologist went even farther and practiced a mix of neuro-ophthalmology and office ophthalmology, like well controlled glaucoma, refraction, dry eye syndrome, etc. Perhaps someone with that training could be part of a practice of 2-3 ophthalmologists so that there would... Undergraduate research relevant for neurosurgery residency?
I am an undergraduate. I am in three research labs with multiple publications in each. I am in a biomedical engineering lab that looked at craniofacial wound treatment. I am in a psychology lab that focused on social psychology and I am also in a neuroscience lab looking at movement and neurodegenerative disorders that is led by an MD/PhD. Would each of this publications be relevant for a neurosurgery application? And which publications would be more valuable - would neuroscience/BME be... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

CNS fellowship vs Neurohospitalist. Job market for CA metros
Hello all. PGY-2 Neuro resident here and I have a question regarding my career goal. I'm between going straight to work after residency vs doing a CNS fellowship. I enjoyed both inpatient and outpatient but I don't enjoy outpatient so much that I want to dedicate another year of my life to fellowship. I know I know it's only one year but if the market is good for neurohospitalist/general neurology then why waste another year right? Haha. So that bring us to my second question: "How is the... Writing "RIP" in official documentation
I frequently see non-survivable trauma where I work. Junior staff are all writing "RIP" at the end of their notes. This is a neurosurg note from earlier today: "[history/exam findings] ... CT scan showed [findings] ... In keeping with non-survivable brain injury. RIP." Patient's still alive at the time of the note. It irks me a bit. Either keep it clinical and formal, or if you absolutely must write "may they rest in peace" or something. Not RIP... Also give the poor bastard 5 minutes to die... Clinical Psychology (Neuropsychology) Academic Career Outlook?
I’m a 2nd year PhD student in clinical psych specializing in neuropsych and I’m hoping to be a professor. Obviously the academic job market isn’t great at the moment, but I’ve heard that clinical psych positions are relatively easier to obtain due to the increased flexibility of the degree. Is this the case? What does the academic job market look like for clinical psych? What about neuropsych? Thank you! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Personal Injury Work and Veterans Evaluations Jobs
Over time, I have come across mostly part time or per diem neurology jobs for personal injury firms and or companies/contractors that do veterans evaluations (DBQs). The rates that they offer per day’s work seem fairly competitive for what looks like evaluating for TBI’s/head injuries. Anyone have experience with these types of jobs? I'm an undergraduate third-year premed student at Duke University and a Neuroscience major. I've been involved in research since freshman year and am currently in a Neuroscience lab. Is pursuing a senior thesis and Graduation with Distinction worth the time commitment, and would it have any benefits when applying to medical schools? Thank you for any advice. Considering getting out of EM
Wanted to pick some brains. I'm a PGY-11 and am burnt to a crisp by EM for all the reasons. I'm a DO and while I learned OMM in school, I've never practiced it in residency or in my attendinghood. How does one go about practicing OMM and working in private practice? Anyone with any experience doing this? And what kind of income would be reasonable working 4 days a week? I've paid all my student loans off so can afford to take a pay cut but still want to be able to max out on contributions... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
