Why is the PsyD degree so watered down?
As a “professional degree” why are there so many different programs under the PsyD degree? I understand having PsyDs in Clinical, Counseling, or School psychology (although I feel like it’d be best to just have a PsyD in one overarching discipline, similar to how every other professional degree is specific to their overall field, MD in medicine, PharmD in pharmacy, OD in optometry, DDS in dentistry, etc.) as those are the normal, accredited eligible, pathways that lead to licensure and... Oral ketamine
Why isn’t oral ketamine commercially available? I use it, although quite sparingly mostly because it seems experimental at this point. I’m using it primarily for opioid resistant cancer pain, CRPS, neuropathic pain resistant to standard anti-epileptics, etc. I use a compounding pharmacy that makes it into sublingual troche or lozenge. Usually using 25 mg up to 100 mg BID. What are your experiences with oral ketamine? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

CL psych and brain failure
I am a resident that has done a little over 3 months of CL. I really try to read on medical topics as they come up so as not to lose all my medical knowledge, but it’s hard. I am definitely no diagnostic genius, unfortunately. I am fascinated by delirium, especially the absolutely wacky incompatible realities that patients can report while delirious (e.g., one pt telling me we are hiding from a wind storm in an office building downtown, and that we are in a hospital). But also, I have... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Post RFA Neuritis
Long time SDN lurker and I appreciate the wisdom of the docs in this forum. I've been out of fellowship about 1 year. Just wanted to get everyones thoughts on Post RFA neuritis (have had a few over the past year). Prescribed some neuropathic agens such as gabapentin vs lyrica vs duloxetine with modest benefit. Haven't found a whole lot of literature on any treatment algorithm. Have spoken to a few attendings about this in the past other options po steroid dose pack, vs doing mbbs at... Transfer during/after PGY2
Hi everyone, I've posted earlier about my situation. In summery, I'm PGY1 categorical IM resident with a very difficult PD who's also not very involved with the residents. I would like to switch to neurology but this will result in retaliation, harmful recommendations, non-renwal of contract, disciplinary actions for very subjective reasons "unprofessional, unteachable, disrespectful...etc" Is it possible to transfer (or start over) during PGY2? This way my program can't deny me PGY1... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Mayo phoenix vs emory vs case western
I have a dilemma: I have an acceptance to emory, however I also interviewed at mayo clinic for the Phoenix program and at Case Western. Because Mayo clinic loves letter of intents, I was wondering should I send one to them? I want to get involved in neuro research, possibly apply to neurosurgery residency (idk tho) and I was wondering which one is better mayo (keep in mind this is the Phoenix program) or emory? If emory is better, then I won't send a letter of intent. @Goro... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Chemotherapy-related side effects: Accommodations in Med school?
Hi everyone, Does anyone have experience with or knowledge pertaining to requesting accommodations at med school specific to the side effects of chemotherapy? e.g. chemo brain / brain fog, intermittent fatigue, delayed recall, reduced attention/ concentration, etc. Do you know if med schools tend to provide accommodations for these type of cancer treatment-related side effects? Is this a difficult process? How extensive of documentation is required? I'm coming off treatment soon and due... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Remediation and residency impact
I’m a first year DO student who is interested in either neurosurgery or neurology. I failed my physiology course and have to remediate it. I’m also considered an international student because I’m from Canada. I’m super concerned for how badly this remediation can impact my chances of getting residencies in my areas of interest. How can I work to improve and possible help make the situation less concerning? I’d really appreciate all the advice. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

CNP 6m/6m vs 1 year neuromuscular and 1 year epilepsy
Does doing CNP fellowship reduce practice opportunities outside of rural communities (privademics, academics in bigger cities) compared to doing 2 years of fellowship and having much more experience with both neuromuscular and epilepsy by doing separate fellowships? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Generalist internship, neuro postdoc?
Moving for an internship (and then AGAIN for a postdoc) poses some serious issues for my family because I have kiddos. The concern I have is that the only internship available in this city is very generalist. It is assessment-heavy, but there are little to no neuro opportunities. In grad school, I've done 2 true neuro practicums and one ASD practicum that included a lot of neuro testing. If I do the generalist practicum will i be SOL for a neuro fellowship? false advertising or acceptable for NP assessment?
Hello, All I recently ran into someone from the same program who advertised on his website that he "specializes" in neuropsychological assessment. I know this person did not have a two-year postdoc in NP and his internship (not APA accredited) was in treatment only. This person could have gotten a 1-year postdoc with mostly assessment (I would not know for sure) but I know it would not be under a neuropsychologist. So, Can this person say they "specialize" in NP assessment? Also, can... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
