Bracing for vertebral compression fracture
Our clinic is currently working on creating a guideline for compression fracture management. Currently there is a plan to make bracing part of that management plan. Our neurosurgeons routinely requests this as well. Up-to-date says that bracing really does not do anything, citing a number of small studies without efficacy, and that they do not routinely use it. Are people here on the board still bracing for their compression fractures patients? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WAMC non-trad, transcript repair
Hi guys, I'll try to keep this short. Posted previously about a year ago. School: Pitt Major: Neuroscience I enrolled in 2 semesters at a university back in the fall of 2016 and spring of 2017. I was going through some pretty major issues at home. My first semester I had a 2.7. The next semester I left campus a week after the semester began and did not withdrawal from my classes so I failed my 4 classes. My school denied a request for a retroactive withdrawal but I plan to keep trying... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Body vs Neuro
R2/rising R3 here really struggling with the decision between the two. I’m truly 50/50. Ideal job would be in private practice being able to read some of everything in addition to the complex cases in my subspecialty. I am also entertaining the thought of 1-on-2-off or night shift/ED job as I’ve found I really enjoy the cases in the ED. I thought I’d list some of the pro’s and con’s I can think of and hope that you guys can provide your input or let me know if I’m just completely off base... Neuropsych Testing
I am a licensed clinical psychologist in NYS as well as a school psychologist with over 10 years of child assessment experience. I was recently contacted by an assessment agency who offered me a fee to conduct a neuropsychological evaluation on a child suspected of a learning disability. Am I not allowed to do this because I am not a board approved neuropsych? Nor am I under the supervision of one. I don’t have additional post-doc specializations but have administered many tests typically... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

UVA vs. Miami
Background: My partner will be working in the Washington DC area with virtual days on Monday and Friday, which would allow her to stay with me on weekends if I live close enough. I am very interested in pursuing neurosurgery. UVA (projected debt - $130,000): Pros 2-3 hours from my partner, so we would see each other most weeks Inova Fairfax track would allow me to live with my partner during clinical years Gives the impression of collaborative students and faculty... Mental Health Tech vs EMT
I am interested in mental health and psychiatry. I have over a year of experience as a research assistant in a mental health psychology lab, and over a year in a neuroscience lab to back that statement up. I would consider myself more well-informed about mental health and illnesses that most, so I believe I can make a compelling argument about my interest in psychiatry. It is probable that my personal statement will revolve around this interest in some fashion (although I recognize the value... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Wake Forest (Full COA) vs (Pitt 20K/year): *I'm torn!*
Hi y'all! Super grateful to have received a full COA scholarship from Wake as well as a scholarship from Pitt that would only require me to take out ~20K in loans each year (ie 80K after four years + interest). I am not sure what I want to specialize in, but am currently interested in Derm/Rads/PM&R/Psych. However, I'm open to others. What I am fairly certain about is that I do not want to do peds/FM/neurology/most surgical subs. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Private Business of Radiation Oncology Forum
We are starting a private forum to have focused discussion about business of radiation oncology and, potentially, other topics related to Rad Onc that should ideally be discussed behind closed doors. There will be a higher standard for discourse in that forum than there is in this one and general dickishness will be punished with removal much more swiftly at the discretion of myself or @Neuronix . If you would like to participate, you must meet the following criteria: 1) Radiation... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I want some opinions on what I should do
I am an Asian 26M who graduated from UCI in 2020 with a degree in neurobiology. I was very unmotivated during that time and did not apply myself as much as I should have so I ended up with a very poor uGPA and sGPA. Since then, I became an EMT during COVID and worked full time in both IFT and 911. After that, I returned to community college and began taking prereqs for nursing school while working as a wound tech. I was eventually accepted into the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing's Direct...
