The spatial extent of tauopathy on [18F]MK-6240 tau PET shows stronger association with cognitive performances than the standard uptake value ratio in Alzheimer ’s disease
ConclusionsQuantifying [18F]MK-6240 tau PET in terms of EOT rather than SUVr significantly increases the correlation with cognitive performances. Quantification in the mesiotemporal lobe is the most useful to diagnose preclinical AD or prodromal AD. (Source: European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging)

Dihydroergotamine mesylate nasal spray: an acute treatment option for migraine in adults
Expert Rev Neurother. 2024 Apr 24:1-10. doi: 10.1080/14737175.2024.2342446. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Although the landscape of migraine symptomatic treatment has been enriched by novel effective drugs, it is mandatory to critically reappraise older molecules to ascertain whether they could still represent reliable alternatives in specific endophenotypes of patients or migraine attacks. Among these, dihydroergotamine (DHE) nasal spray has been shown to be effective and is characterized by greater tolerability and manageability than the parenteral DHE formulation.AREAS COVERED: In this narrative review, th...

Classroom recordings: Utilization and influence on course performance
CONCLUSION: Videos were used < 1 hour per week, primarily to study for exams. When used as a study tool, video use decreased course performance. Rewatching videos to prepare for exams may be mistaken for mastery of material.PMID:38654584 | DOI:10.7899/JCE-23-21 (Source: The Journal of Chiropractic Education)

Therapeutic progress and future prospects of chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy
AbstractChronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) is a rare and heterogeneous but treatable immune-mediated neuropathy. The pathogenesis of CIDP is complex interplay of diverse immune mechanisms involving cellular and humoral pathways. The European Academy of Neurology/Peripheral Nerve Society guidelines were reissued in 2021, and the classification and diagnostic criteria were changed. Treatments include immunoglobulin, steroid, and plasmapheresis are effective, including remission induction and maintenance therapy. Maintenance treatments are often required for years, and treatment regimens require ...

Can We Adopt Pediatric Palliative Care that is Indivisible with Equity for all?
In this volume of The Journal, two retrospective cohort studies, both based in Ohio, provide insightful data about the deployment of dedicated pediatric palliative care teams. While home-based visits have been a longtime core principle of pediatric hospice care, their value has not been well defined or justified. Thus, Smith et al analyzed healthcare utilization outcomes in a sample of children who received home visits across two well-established pediatric home-based palliative care and hospice programs over 6 years among 195 children, half of whom had neurologic impairment. A new vision of the efficacy of both CAR-NK and CAR-T cells in treating cancers and autoimmune diseases
AbstractChimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) based therapies are becoming increasingly important in treating patients. CAR-T cells have been shown to be highly effective in the treatment of hematological malignancies. However, harmful therapeutic barriers have been identified, such as the potential for graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), neurotoxicity, and cytokine release syndrome (CRS). As a result, CAR NK-cell therapy is expected to be a new therapeutic option. NK cells act as cytotoxic lymphocytes, supporting the innate immune response against autoimmune diseases and cancer cells by precisely detecting and eliminating maligna...

Health-related quality of life, work ability and disability among individuals with persistent post-dural puncture headache
ConclusionThis study stresses the burden of pPDPH in terms of substantial disability, limited quality of life, mental health concerns, and significant impact on the ability to work. The study highlights the long-term impact of pPDPH on individuals, emphasizing the need for timely diagnosis and effective treatment. It underscores the complexity of managing pPDPH and calls for further research into its long-term effects on patient health and HRQoL. (Source: The Journal of Headache and Pain)

Association between the quantity of stroke care units and the complement of neurosurgical and neurology specialists in Japan: A retrospective study
Initial treatment in a stroke unit (SU) can reduce the mortality of stroke victims, increase the rate of discharge to home, and decrease the amount of time spent in the hospital. The effectiveness of an SU has also been proven in a meta-analysis. Stroke units have been established in various locations in Europe since 1990, and the medical system for managing the acute phase of stroke has improved1, 2. The Japanese Stroke Association recommends in its Stroke Treatment Guidelines 2021 that acute stroke patients should be treated by a multidisciplinary stroke team in an SU that provides intensive care and early rehabilitation...
