Engineering to Medicine
Hey everyone, I wanted to get some feedback about how to be a more competitive applicant to get accepted into medical school. I'd also like to know what my odds are of getting in to a mid to higher tier school. I'm working on my undergrad in chemical engineering, and decided I'm more passionate about medicine and would prefer to be a doctor or perhaps a physician engineer. I’ve heard of several programs in Texas that offer dual degrees in biomedical engineering along with the MD (for... Engineering to Medicine (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What Are My Chances? Top Medical Schools
Hello, thank you for taking the time to read this. I’m graduating from Cal Poly SLO in two years because of dual enrollment with a college in high school and I’m a bit concerned about how this will affect my application. I will be applying to NYU’s Accelerated MD Program, Stanford, Harvard, Yale, UCLA, Columbia, UCSF, JHU, Northwestern, Mayo, UPenn, WashU, UC Davis, UCSD, Duke, UChicago, Yale, USC, and Cornell. Major: Biomedical Engineering (I’m in Cal Poly’s Honors Program) cGPA: 4.0 sGPA... What Are My Chances? Top Medical Schools (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Medical Device
Question for the inventors of SDN: I have an idea for a medical device. It’s relatively simple, and I think it would have significant commercial value... That being said, I have virtually no experience with fabrication, biomedical engineering, patent law, etc. Anyone have any relevant experience or advice? To those who have applied for patents, any tips on the process? Worth it to get a patent lawyer, or is it something I can navigate myself and save a few grand? I do work for an academic... Any reason for the average applicant to apply to the top 10-20 programs?
246 step 1, 5/7 H in MS3, few posters, few projects in progress, low-mid tier US MD school, no class rank but not Jr AOA, worked for a year as an ophtho tech, biomedical engineering background I think I'm an average, if not below average, applicant. Just wondering if I can save myself a few hundred dollars by not applying to the top 10-20 programs. The average # of apps last year was 75 and that's crazy to me (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Low undergraduate GPA
Hi everyone, I am a 24-year-old Asian-American female. I went to a state school in NY for my original undergraduate. Originally majored in biomedical engineering but did very poorly (picked a major I wasn't interested in, was in a toxic relationship, didn't put in the work, basically was an idiot). I ended up graduating with a B.A. in psych and a minor in anthro. I graduated with a cumulative GPA of 2.375. Haven't taken the MCAT. Since then, I started working full-time as a clinical... Software Engineer to MD/PhD?
Double majored in biomedical engineering and computer science at a state school for undergrad, graduating this month. uGPA: 3.3 sGPA: 3.3 Unfortunately, no upward trend. Low GPA is a result of doing two majors in four years. Research - a summer at a well-known cancer center with a poster presented at a conference; two years of research at a lab at my school but no substantial work was completed (didn't enjoy the research topic) Shadowing - I estimate about 30 hours total, done at the... Opinions Wanted!! 6 Undergrad Options for Premed
I'm a HS senior looking to study biomedical engineering on a premed track. My narrowed down options are Arizona State (in state), MIT, Boston University, CU Boulder, UTexas-Austin, UCSD Does going to ASU basically kill my med school app? Is premed at MIT worthwhile and doable? I think UCSD is strong premed option (?) but what are your opinions of BU, CU Boulder, and UT for premed? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Admission chances & gap year opportunities
Recent graduate from top engineering school, degree in Biomedical Engineering Overall GPA: 3.27, BCPM: 3.0, Major-specific GPA: 3.6 Can justify lower GPA towards beginning of undergrad due to family and financial problems (have always had a job since 10th grade to help provide for myself) Minor in foreign language Extracurricular activities: internship with two top biomedical engineering companies (2 semesters) have a patent for a surgical... Improving application for MD/PhD reapplication
Hi everyone. I'm just now coming to terms with the fact that I may have to reapply next cycle, and I was wondering if I could get some input on how to beef up my application. I applied solely to MD/PhD programs at 27 schools. cGPA: 3.73 sGPA: 3.69 Major: Biomedical Engineering, JHU MCAT: 517 (130/130/129/128), expires this year. Year: Second Gap Year State: Massachusetts Here was my school list, which I feel may have been too heavy for MD/PhD: Harvard, JHU, UCSF, Stanford, UPenn,... Australian MD wishing to move to US
Hi i am 17 and have just graduated highschool in Western Australia. Whilst I got into my first preference medical schools in the different states, I opted for the 'direct pathway to MD' course at UWA as it is in my home state. It will still be another 3 years before I start my medicine course (which will be 3 yrs as i am doing my bachelors in medical sciences and biomedical engineering). I want to move to the United States as my family is over there (particularly California). I am a bit... Australian MD wishing to move to US (Source: Student Doctor Network)
