Hybridization between Pyrenophora teres Forms in Natural Populations of Russia and the Republic of Belarus
The objective of this work was to search Russian and Belarussian natural populations for hybrids between P. teres f. teres and P. teres f. maculata with the use of new form-specific markers, Ptt and Ptm. The study included 138 single-conidium isolates from four P. teres f. maculatа and four P. teres f. teres populations. The isolates were collected from commercial barley plantations of Leningrad oblast, Krasnodar krai (Russia), and Brest oblast (Belarus) from 2013 to 2016. A genotyping with 10 form-specific markers was performed in all isolates. Several isolates were found to combine markers of both of the P. teres forms ...

Origin and evolution of subtype B variants in the former Soviet Union countries
The objective of this analysis was to investigate the origin and transmission routes of HIV subtype B in FSU countries. We performed phylogenetic and phylodynamic analyses using 21,007 publicly available subtype B sequences from Europe and Asia, including thirteen FSU countries. Our study suggests that BFSU strain evolved more recently in FSU countries (Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan) compared to the Western B variant in Western Europe (Austria, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Switzerland). The primary high-risk group responsible for ...

IJERPH, Vol. 19, Pages 13994: Physical Activity and Mental Health of Medical Students from Poland and Belarus-Countries with Different Restrictive Approaches during the COVID-19 Pandemic
Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a significant exacerbation of mental health issues among medical students. In order to alleviate negative effects of the pandemic, it seems necessary for universities to monitor the physical and mental health state of students and to implement prevention programmes. Increased trend of thyroid cancer in childhood over the last 30  years in EU countries: a call for the pediatric surgeon
Conclusion: An increasing prevalence of thyroid cancer is seen in age groups 10 –19. Further research is required to understand the underlying cause and concomitantly identify the most proper screening and diagnostic techniques of thyroid nodules. Indeed, this is crucial to reach optimal surgical standards and better prognosis, possibly with more conservative approaches and m aybe less postoperative complications. What is Known:• Thyroid cancer is the 4th most common malignancy in children. What is New:• In the last decades, an increasing pattern has been recorded.• In the US, it has outlined breast cancers as the...

Medieval and early modern diets in the Polack region of Belarus: A stable isotope perspective
by Vera Haponava, Aliaksei Kots, Mary Lucas, Max Both, Patrick Roberts In western and north-western Europe there has been a growing focus on exploring how major economic, political, and social changes during the Medieval period impacted the lived experience of different populations and sectors of society. Stable isotope analysis has proven particularly powerful in th is regard, providing direct insights into the long-term diets of individuals and communities. Despite experiencing similarly dramatic social reconfigurations and changes, eastern Europe has, however, received far less attention in this regard. The territory o...

Two novel Erwinia amylovora bacteriophages, Loshitsa2 and Micant, isolated in Belarus
AbstractThe complete genomes of the newErwinia amylovora bacteriophages Loshitsa2 and Micant are 43,092 bp and 43,028 bp long, respectively, encode 51 putative proteins, and have two tRNA genes. Comparative analysis with representatives of the classCaudoviricetes suggests that bacteriophages Loshitsa2 and Micant are related to LIMElight bacteriophage belonging to the familyAutographiviridae and could be proposed to be members of a novel subfamily. Breast cancer risk in Ukrainian women exposed to Chornobyl fallout while pregnant or lactating: standardized incidence ratio analysis, 1998 to 2016
AbstractThe radiation-related risk of breast cancer among women following the Chornobyl accident remains uncertain. During pregnancy, there is rapid cell proliferation in the breast while radioactive iodine from fallout exposure can concentrate in lactating breast tissues. We conducted a standardized incidence ratio (SIR) analysis of breast cancer in a cohort of 2,631 women who were lactating and/or pregnant at any time during the 2-month period of radioiodine fallout (April 26, 1986 –June 30, 1986). There were 37,151 person-years of follow-up, and 26 incident breast cancers were identified through linkage with the Natio...

Projecting Cardiovascular Deaths Averted due to Trans Fat Policies in the Eurasian Economic Union
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates the potential population health gains that can be derived from effective policies to reduce TFAs in line with WHO guidance. Monitoring and surveillance systems are needed to evaluate the effectiveness of the TFA-reduction policies in a national context.PMID:36184895 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980022001872 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)
