Foreign neurosurgeon - Options in the US
Hello My Dad is currently a neurosurgeon in foreign country. He specializes in acupuncture in treating back pain (he no longer does surgeries). He will be living in US from next year after obtaining a Green card, and he still wishes to treat patients in US. But he does not want to re-do 3-4 yrs of residency in US to obtain US medical license (he is 60 years old). It will be unlikely for him to attend acupuncture school for >3 years to obtain acupuncture license. I am aware that he... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Post your bizarre consultant interactions
Post your bizarre, funny, or facepalm inducing interactions you’ve had with consultants here. Non-EM folks, please refrain from posting your dumb ER doc stories, SDN is already filled with those threads. I’ll post my story that made me think of making this thread. Had a lady with significant CAD hx s/p 5 vessel bypass and numerous stents come in for epigastric pain. Initial ECG was completely normal. She is completely asymptomatic while in the ER. Her trop comes back mildly elevated, so I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Active Duty AF physician facing med board/HPSP implications
Hi all, I'm an Active Duty Air Force physician currently serving my 2nd year of my 4 year commitment. I had the HPSP scholarship to pay for medical school and did a civilian residency. In early 2019 I had an injury which required surgery (C5-7 disc extrusion and myelopathy, requiring Anterior cervical disc replacement). I was unable to finish my last PT test due to pain in my back and I got an MRI which showed significant cervical stenosis. I'm being referred back to neurosurgery and My PCM... Transverse myelitis
I kinda feel like this is the one back pain related diagnosis that I haven't yet made. Granted, it's not common. For those who have seen it; how did it present? How did you make the dx? What made you think about it? What else... (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Fitness thread
Fellow. No kids. First time in my life I’m actually sticking to some kind of workout routine for six months. Just going for an hour split between weights and cardio 4-5 times a week for 50 mins to an hour. Three day rotation between triceps/chest, biceps/back, legs. Not going for gains, just whole body health. Go after work. What are other people doing? How do you fit it into your daily routine? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Marking Patients Ahead of Time vs In Room
Hey all: I see all my patients for OV prior to doing any injections. Therefore, we already went over R/B and have done consent etc. Despite this, I have been going into the separate pre-op holding room on procedure days, before the procedure, and marking them before they bring the patient back. It seems it would be much more efficient if I just hung out in the procedure room and marked the patient when they were wheeled in, and then put the pre-local note in the computer at that time. I... Academic versus private, tips on job search
Could people please comment on how they chose academic vs private practice within the realm of sports med? What is the job market like for academic vs private, specifically for someone who does *not* want to do spine or see chronic pain? Lastly, are there better ways to approach the job search than emailing physician recruiters? This has been frustrating for me, as I craft thoughtful emails and get zero response. Thank you for any insights. (Source: Student Doctor Network)
