Nontrad needs advice, am I on the right track?
I graduated undergrad around 7 years ago and have a pre-med background. I was going to apply to medical school back then but kept putting off studying for the MCAT. One of my parents suddenly died at the end of my sophomore year and I developed a chronic pain disorder shortly after that. I ended up taking a gap year after college to teach English abroad through a government program. The past 5 years I’ve just been working and treating my trauma/grief and my medical condition. I’m in a much... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Help With Cerner/FirstNet
Just got a new gig which has me switching to cerner. I used it back in residency but forgot all the tips and tricks. Specifically, right now I'm trying to create my own order sets because the pre-filled ones are incomplete. For example, ED Chest Pain doesn't have a Dimer order to click. I can "add to phase" a dimer and it comes into the order set pre-selected as Dimer Blood Stat. But if I unclick it, the details go away and I'd have to re-select "blood" and "stat" details every time I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

SIS courses
Hi everyone, I was interested in this Spine Intervention Society course. I am nearing completion with my training but wanted to attend one SIS course. This course seems to give the most bang for the buck it covers a variety of things. Has anyone attended this course? I had 2 questions: 1. does the hands on sessions for this course course involve everything listed (i.e. disc access in all lumbar levels, cervical-thoracic-lumbar transforaminals and RFA etc.) 2. this course does not... Anyone who loved obgyn but didn't pursue it? What did you do?
I am on my very nice family med rotation, which I was hoping to love partially due to my low Step 1 but also due to the opportunity to do obgyn. I unfortunately find that I feel overwhelmed with the case load of patients in their 50/60s with comorbid conditions and the fact that the PCP is often the first to field an undifferentiated complaint like back pain or headaches. I unfortunately fell in love with my OB rotation which I just had. It was all amazing from the healthy deliveries to the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Prognostic blocks for peripheral neuromodulation
I see many articles for peripheral nerve stimulation in which most if not all of them report a positive response to a block of the same nerve prior to placing the stimulator. I see similar regarding blocking nerve roots and DRG stimulation. At a recent course I had the opportunity to discuss this with a guru that I respect. His response was " the MOA of stim is not the same as a local anesthetic block so it makes no sense to predict a response based on a block. Do you do a spinal to predict... Is anyone doing this two needle technique for RFA?
I saw Dr. Chapman's video a while back where he does the two needle technique. Then more recently I actually found the article describing the technique. Two-Needle Technique for Lumbar Radiofrequency Medial Branch Denervation: A Technical Note - PubMed The detailed two-needle approach to lumbar RF medial branch denervation appears to be promising in terms of projected treatment success by coagulating a large volume of tissue, in a cost- and time-efficient manner. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov ...

MMGA Nonanesthesia Pain provider compensation negotiation
Advice please: In contract re-negotiations with large medical group: Management wants to categorize the interventional physiatrists in the Physiatry MMGA category instead of the Nonanesthesiaain provider category. All the interventionalists are fellowship-trained in spine procedures and their practices are mainly interventional. Any tips/suggestions for “proving” one’s justification into the higher compensated category? What arguments- besides we are doing everything the anesthesiology... Pain Is A Great EM Subspecialty That You Should Think About
Doing an Interventional Pain fellowship is something that's open to EM residents and physicians, just as much as it is to Anesthesiologist and Physiatrists. You should look into it. It's a whole different world, and a whole different life. Sleeping at night, and being awake during the day. Spine epidurals, joint injections, nerve blocks, nerve ablations, using fluoro/ultrasound, joint injections, placing spinal cord stimulators. Cool procedures. I have a 2 level kyphoplasty on a cancer... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
