Do peanuts cause acne?
Nicky needs to know…BTW, can peanuts cause clogged pores? The Beauty Brains respond: Nicky’s question comes to us as a comment on our post about the pore clogging properties of coconut oil. She didn’t specify whether she’s talking about eating peanuts or using them in some kind of topical DIY product. We’re not nutritionists (if we were we’d be the “Nutritional Noggins” or maybe the “Dietary Divas”) but we do know the scoop on peanut oil Peanut oil is rated “2″ on the comedogenicity scale, therefore the likelihood it will cause clogged pores that coul...

DOJ Probing International Pharmaceutical Manufacturing
Earlier this year, we noted that a new enforcement focus for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) will be increased oversight to ensure compliance with the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) current good manufacturing practices (cGMPs) regulations. Specifically, Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong, Deputy Assistant Attorney General (DAAG) for DOJ's Consumer Protection Branch (CPB), noted her division has long worked closely with FDA to promote the safety of pharmaceutical products.    Several months later, it appears that DOJ is acting on this promise in two recent cases. Wheat elimination: A first week experience
Patti posted this wonderful description of her and her son’s experience in their first week of wheatlessness: One week on the Wheat Belly diet has come and gone. Here is how it is working at our house: I (mom) feel so good. I no longer need an afternoon nap, I have lost the squishy fat around my middle (I am not overweight, so the squishy thing was driving me nuts!). I’m drinking more water; because now I can tell when I am thirsty and hungry. Best of all, my thoughts are more positive and my emotional resilience has increased. This is particularly good because I have a 14-year old son. The 14 year old son is foll...

Why does coconut oil clog my pores but not my friend’s?
ThinkArt says….Why is it that coconut oil can be one person’s best friend, and another one’s enemy? I read somewhere that it had to do with its fatty acid ratios being suitable for large pores, but not small pores…is this a fact? I can’t find enough evidence to back this up.  The Beauty Brains respond:  The way we see it there are two possibilities: a) Your friend is lying to you about not having clogged pores and she’s just using good concealer. b) There some confounding factors that could be triggering a response in you but not her. Let’s take a closer look. Causes of clogged pore...
