Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension
Idiopathic intracranial hypertension is defined by headaches and a decline in visual acuity due to increased intracranial pressure. Treatment options historically included weight loss, acetazolamide, and/or cerebrospinal fluid diversion surgery. Recent understanding of the contributions of dural venous sinus hypertension and stenosis has led to venous sinus stenting as a treatment option. (Source: Neurosurgery Clinics of North America)

Intraocular pressure profile following selective laser trabeculoplasty in pigmentary and primary open-angle glaucoma
CONCLUSIONS: SLT was comparably effective in both PG and POAG. IOP spikes were observed only in the PG group, though the total laser energy was lower in this group compared with POAG.PMID:38470322 | DOI:10.1177/11206721241237305 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

A multi-institutional phase I study of acetazolamide with temozolomide in adults with newly diagnosed < em > MGMT < /em > -methylated malignant glioma
CONCLUSIONS: The addition of acetazolamide is safe and tolerable in GBM patients receiving standard TMZ. Survival results compare favorably to historical data from randomized trials in patients with MGMT promoter-methylated GBM and support examination of acetazolamide in a randomized trial. BCL-3 expression is a potential biomarker for prognosis in GBM or for patients more likely to benefit from TMZ.PMID:38420615 | PMC:PMC10901541 | DOI:10.1093/noajnl/vdae014 (Source: Adv Data)

Acetazolamide as an Adjunctive Diuretic Therapy for Patients with Acute Decompensated Heart Failure: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
ConclusionsAcetazolamide as an adjunctive diuretic significantly improves global surrogate endpoints for decongestion therapy but not all individual signs and symptoms of volume overload.Systematic Review RegistrationThis systematic review was prospectively registered on the PROSPERO (https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/), registration number CRD498330. Evaluation and Management of Hyponatremia in Heart Failure
AbstractPurpose of ReviewTo provide a contemporary overview of the pathophysiology, evaluation, and treatment of hyponatremia in heart failure (HF).Recent FindingsPotassium and magnesium losses due to poor nutritional intake and treatment with diuretics cause an intracellular sodium shift in HF that may contribute to hyponatremia. Impaired renal blood flow leading to a lower glomerular filtration rate and increased proximal tubular reabsorption lead to an impaired tubular flux through diluting distal segments of the nephron, compromising electrolyte-free water excretion.SummaryHyponatremia in HF is typically a condition of...

Spontaneous rhinorrhea and idiopathic intracranial hypertension: a complex and challenging association
CONCLUSIONS: The complex relationship between spontaneous CSF leaks and IIH is a challenge that benefits from multidisciplinary evaluation and management for successful treatment. Treatments such as endoscopic repair, acetazolamide, and VP/ /LP shunts reduce complications and recurrence. Personalised plans addressing elevated intracranial pressure are crucial for successful outcomes.PMID:38393958 | DOI:10.5603/pjnns.98054 (Source: Neurologia i Neurochirurgia Polska)
