There are many variables considered in the staging of esophageal cancer, which even include histology (adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma) and the affected region of the esophagus. Howev er, to more accurately represent the biology of a disease with aggressive locoregional and distant metastatic potential, there could be major variables that still require parsing into additional subcomponents.
