October 2011: How is Your Crohn’s Today?

Hello everyone! I hope that you are doing well today! It is time for us to have another edition of ‘How is your Crohn’s today?’. For those who are new to the blog, every now and then I like to check in with everyone to hear how you are doing and how your Crohn’s is holding up. Here’s how I’ve been doing: I started the Stem Cell Clinical Trial and had the first infusion on the 12th of October. I was really nervous about the first one since I don’t have good success with medications (I always seem to get those rare side effects!), so I asked my husband to take me. It was good that I brought him because they gave me 50mg of IV Benadryl (and it is never a good idea to navigate the Houston highways when you are not fully alert). The infusion went pretty well — but, oddly enough, I smelled weird for a few days afterwards. It is the preservative that they use for the stem cells — it makes you smell like cream of corn. My husband doesn’t have a good sense of smell so he doesn’t really notice, but it really bothers my daughter. She keeps telling me that I stink and she can’t stand the smell so much that she doesn’t want me to cuddle her. She has a very sensitive nose! In terms of side effects, I did get a headache, and my feet were a little itchy, but nothing too bad. Now, I am just trying to forget that I have stem cells running around inside of me.
