Analysis of native kidney biopsy: Data from a single center from Bihar, India. Saudi J Kidney Dis Transpl. 2018 Sep-Oct;29(5):1174-1180 Authors: Krishna A, Vardhan H, Singh PP, Kumar O Abstract This is a retrospective study of all native kidney biopsies performed at our center between October 1, 2012 and March 31, 2015. Relevant clinical and laboratory variables were recorded. Biopsy samples were processed for light microscopy and immunofluorescence in all cases. Histological classification was adapted from the World Health Organization recommendations. The indications for kidney biopsy were nephrotic syndrome in adults in 190 cases, rapidly progressive renal failure in 43, unexplained renal failure in 25, and steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome in children in 12. The mean age of the patients was 31.48 ± 13.46 years. Male-to-female ratio was 1.87:1. Mean serum creatinine (SCr) of the patients was 2.36 ± 2.07 mg/dL. Primary glomerulonephritis accounted for 88.89% of cases (240) while secondary glomerulonephritis accounted for 7.40% of total cases (20). Interstitial disease accounted for 1.5% and vascular disease for 2.2%. The most common lesion among primary glomerulonephritis was focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) (31.11%) followed by diffuse proliferative glomerulonephritis (DPGN) (13.33%) and membranous glomerulonephritis (MGN) (12.59%). Among secondary glomerulonephritis, lupus nephritis was the most common (5.56%). In patients w...

ConclusionsDUWL contamination is a serious issue in dentistry, and the microbiological quality of the water must be monitored regularly. Further studies on endotoxin exposure and prevention are therefore necessary.

We present case of a 65-year-old ex-smoker male with history of heart transplantation and EGFR positive metastatic lung adenocarcinoma. At admission he was in a severe clinical condition and treatment with erlotinib was started. Initially he had good clinical and radiologic response to treatment with only grade 1 side effects.  Data about drug interactions between cyclosporine and erlotinib are insufficient but we have to take this interaction into consideration during treatment because both drugs are substrates and inhibitors of CYP34A. In our case erlotinib was safe and well tolerated drug, there were no relevant to...

We show that the Polycomb Repressor Complex 1 (PRC1) drives colonization of the bones and visceral organs in double-negative prostate cancer (DNPC). In vivo genetic screening identifies CCL2 as the top prometast...

Reprogramming was achieved using integration free, Sendai viral vector system expressing cocktail of transcription factors KOS, hc-MYC and hKLF4. Both the established cell-lines showed alkaline phosphatase activity, expressed ste...

Abstract An analysis of the renal biopsy data is important to understand the regional prevalence of various biopsy-proven renal diseases (BPRDs). We analyzed our renal biopsy registry over a period of 15 years. We retrospectively reviewed all the renal biopsies performed at Arun Kidney Centre, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, from January 2004 to March 2018. All biopsies were analyzed using immunofluorescence and light microscopy. A total of 924 renal biopsies were considered for the analysis. The mean age of the patients was 32 ± 14.77 years, with a male:female ratio of 1.5:1. Nephrotic syndrome (46.1%) was the...

This study shows that focal segmental glomerulosclerosis is the most common lesion in renal biopsy in the young age group followed by membranous nephropathy. Diabetic nephropathy and chronic interstitial nephritis were dominant secondary pathological lesions in older age group, whereas lupus nephritis was the most common secondary disease in young age females. Abstract Epidemiological studies on renal biopsies are necessary to establish the pattern and trends of renal diseases in a particular geographic area. In this retrospective study, we reviewed the medical records, histopathology findings and complications of renal biopsy in a region of Morocco. We studied a total of 130 native kidney biopsies taken between January 2008 and January 2012. All biopsies were examined by light microscopy and immunofluorescence microscopy. There were 86 males (66.2%) and 44 females (33.8%), with a mean patient age of 44.82 ± 17.86 (range 8-86) years. The most common indications o...
