Professional Development Workshop: Using Data Systems to Improve Hispanic Health Outcomes (Day 1)

Funded by the HHS Office of Minority Health through the National Umbrella Cooperative Agreement II Grant and in collaboration by the Department of Health and Human Services, National Institutes of Health, this two-day workshop aims to help prepare scholars interested in Hispanic health research. Tabak, DDS, PhD Principal Deputy Director National Institutes of Health (NIH), HHS PLENARY 1: INTERSECTION BETWEEN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, DATA SYSTEMS AND HISPANIC HEALTH (10:00am –10:45am) SPEAKER: Mark Hugo Lopez, PhD Director, Hispanic Research, Pew Research Center This presentation will provide an overview of secondary data analyses performed by the Pew Research Center's Hispanic Trends Project. The talk will also address the nation's changing demographics and the impact of policies on population and need of Latino leaders, Linking Big Data, Career Advancement & Hispanic Health (e.g., health insurance, use of health care, disability, and social determinants of health). Specific examples will be provided of successes and challenges in translating quantitative research for policymakers to improve Latino health and well being.
