Treatment Options and the Management of Complications in Hydatid Cysts of the Liver in Endemic Regions
CONCLUSION: Surgical treatment should represent the standard procedure since it is safe and effective, ensures complete elimination of the parasite, involves no intraoperative shedding, preserves healthy tissues, and minimizes the risk of long-term recurrence and cavity-related complications.PMID:38684490 | DOI:10.62713/aic.3379 (Source: Annali Italiani di Chirurgia)

The emergence of carbapenem-resistance and New Delhi metallo- β-lactamase-1 ( < em > bla < /em > < sub > NDM-1 < /sub > ) among < em > Salmonella < /em > spp. in Kerman, Iran
CONCLUSION: Our study showed the emergence of carbapenem-resistant and blaNDM-1 among Salmonella spp. for the first time in Kerman, Iran. Since Salmonella spp. plays an important role in the transmission of resistance genes in livestock and humans in the food chains, so more stringent control policies are recommended to prevent the circulation of drug-resistant and potentially pathogenic strains from animals to humans.PMID:38682060 | PMC:PMC11055441 | DOI:10.18502/ijm.v16i1.14868 (Source: Iranian Journal of Microbiology)

An insight into the epidemiology of foodborne zoonotic fascioliasis in small ruminants in northwestern region of Bangladesh
AbstractFascioliasis is one of the most common foodborne zoonotic infection of ruminants in Bangladesh. To estimate the prevalence and associated risk factors of fascioliasis and extent of liver damage, 825 livers of sheep and goats were randomly inspected during onsite slaughterhouse visiting in Naogaon, Natore, Rajshahi and Joypurhat districts. The overall prevalence of fascioliasis was 25.09% and significantly (P = 0.008) higher in goats (26.11%) than sheep (24.00%). During gross inspection,Fasciola infected livers were increased in size, fibrosed, fatty, multiple white or reddish necrotic foci on the parietal surfa...

Comparison of Extracellular Vesicle Isolation Methods for the Study of Exosome Cargo within Toxocara canis and Toxocara cati Excretory Secretory (TES) Products
Exp Parasitol. 2024 Apr 26:108765. doi: 10.1016/j.exppara.2024.108765. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTToxocara is a genus of nematodes, which infects a variety of hosts, principally dogs and cats, with potential zoonotic risks to humans. Toxocara spp. larvae are capable of migrating throughout the host tissues, eliciting eosinophilic and granulomatous reactions, while surviving for extended periods of time, unchanged, in the host. It is postulated that larvae are capable of altering the host's immune response through the release of excretory-secretory products, containing both proteins and extracellular vesicles (EVs). The ...

Magnetically modified bacteriophage-triggered ATP release activated EXPAR-CRISPR/Cas14a system for visual detection of Burkholderia pseudomallei
Biosens Bioelectron. 2024 Apr 25;257:116334. doi: 10.1016/j.bios.2024.116334. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBurkholderia pseudomallei, widely distributed in tropical and subtropical ecosystems, is capable of causing the fatal zoonotic disease melioidosis and exhibiting a global trend of dissemination. Rapid and sensitive detection of B. pseudomallei is essential for environmental monitoring as well as infection control. Here, we developed an innovative biosensor for quantitatively detecting B. pseudomallei relies on ATP released triggered by bacteriophage-induced bacteria lysis. The lytic bacteriophage vB_BpP_HN01, with hi...
