LB1661 The differences between human skin and skin warts in the nanoscale distribution of nuclear speckle-associated phospholipids revealed by quantitative super-resolution microscopy
Chronic human papillomavirus (HPV) infection of the cutaneous skin can be asymptomatic or cause benign skin warts, premalignant actinic keratosis or malignant squamous cell carcinoma. A novel hallmark of HPV-mediated carcinogenesis is increased level of nuclear phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (nPI(4,5)P2). Nuclear speckles (NS) represent the largest pool of nPI(4,5)P2. Here, we used quantitative multicolor stimulated emission depletion (STED) nanoscopy to study the nanoscale distribution of the nPI(4,5)P2 with respect to the NS marker SON in human clinical formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) skin and HPV warts. Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 4068: Malignancy Associated with Low-Risk HPV6 and HPV11: A Systematic Review and Implications for Cancer Prevention
o Rui M. Gil da Costa High-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) is etiologically related to cervical cancer, other anogenital cancers and oropharyngeal carcinomas. Low-risk HPV, especially HPV6 and HPV11, cause genital warts and laryngeal papillomas. However, the accumulating data suggests that HPV6 and HPV11 may cause malignant lesions at non-cervical anatomic sites. This review aims to estimate the proportions of single and dual HPV6/11 infections in multiple cancers reported in the last 10 years in the Cochrane, Embasa and PubMed databases. Secondly, the genomes of HPV6/11 were compared with the most common high-risk g...

Influence of sexually transmitted infections on the cervical cytological abnormalities among Iranian women: A cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: High percentages of the participants with non-HPV STIs and HPV infection had normal cervical cytology. It is advised to use STIs and HPV diagnostic tests along with cytology examinations for cervical cancer screening.PMID:37560071 | PMC:PMC10407913 | DOI:10.18502/ijrm.v21i6.13636 (Source: Herpes)

Rare Cutaneous Side Effects of Imiquimod: A Review on Its Mechanisms, Diagnosis, and Management
AbstractAs an immune-response modifier, imiquimod can bind to Toll-like receptors on immune cells and enhance innate and adaptive immune responses, exerting potential antitumor and antiviral effects, which led to its approval by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of actinic keratosis, superficial basal cell carcinomas, and anogenital warts, and to its off-label use in treating many other benign and malignant dermatoses. Although topical administration of imiquimod has been considered well tolerated, an increasing number of cutaneous and noncutaneous side effects are being reported as its clinical applica...

Quadrivalent HPV vaccine effectiveness against anogenital warts: A registry-based study of 2,2 million individuals
CONCLUSIONS: When administered before 14 years of age, qHPV vaccination reduced the probability of AGW about fivefold. The effect decreased sharply with vaccination age, and was not significant among women vaccinated after age 20 years. QHPV administered after the first AGW episode did not protect against a second AGW episode. Herd effects were indicated in unvaccinated males, as we observed a gradual decrease in AGW rates from the 1993 male birth cohort and onwards.PMID:37516572 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.07.031 (Source: Vaccine)

Towards Formulation of Highly Acidic Active Ingredients: Development of Clinically Effective Concentrated Trichloroacetic Acid Gel for Wart Management
AAPS PharmSciTech. 2023 Jul 27;24(6):160. doi: 10.1208/s12249-023-02615-7.ABSTRACTCommon warts are benign skin lesions caused by the human papillomavirus. Although they are usually not harmful, they can cause pain, depending on their location. While many modalities are available for treatment of warts, none is a gold standard, and many are not affordable and/or have suboptimal outcomes. Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) is a chemical tissue-destroying agent used as a highly concentrated solution for wart management. While available and efficient, it is difficult to handle as the solution spreads to tissue surrounding the wart cau...

Clinico-epidemiological profile of genital dermatoses in people living with HIV: A shifting paradigm from venereal to nonvenereal dermatoses
CONCLUSION: This study showed that nonvenereal genital dermatoses are more common than STIs in people living with HIV. Our findings reiterate the fact that genital lesions should be approached with caution as a presumptive and hasty diagnosis of STI adds greatly to the morbidity of the patient in terms of guilt and shame, and adversely affects the quality of life.PMID:37457512 | PMC:PMC10343133 | DOI:10.4103/ijstd.ijstd_39_22 (Source: Herpes)

Methodological quality of systematic reviews of the local management of anogenital warts: a systematic review using AMSTAR II, ROBIS and PRISMA
The objective of our study was to assess the quality and consistency of SRs for the local management of AGWs using three international tools. Methods Seven electronic databases were searched from inception to 10 January 2022 for this SR. The intervention of interest was any local treatment of AGWs. There was no restriction on language and population. The methodological quality, reporting quality and risk of bias (ROB) of the included SRs for the local treatments of AGWs were assessed independently by two investigators with A Measurement Tool to Assess systematic Reviews version II (AMSTAR II), Risk of Bias in Systematic R...
