Molecular detection of oral Trichomonas tenax in periodontal disease patients by polymerase chain reaction -based 18S rRNA gene
Trop Biomed. 2023 Sep 1;40(3):307-312. doi: 10.47665/tb.40.3.006.ABSTRACTTrichomonas tenax, an oral flagellated protozoon found in humans, potentially associated with the inflammation of periodontal tissues and decreased immunity that causes the tissue damage and tooth loss from chronic infection. Currently, there is a lack of data regarding the prevalence of T. tenax infection in Thailand. Therefore, this study aimed to measure prevalence of T. tenax in periodontal disease patients by using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to amplify the 18S ribosomal RNA (18S rRNA) gene and to determine the factors associated with the pre...

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 5194: No Association of Trichomonas vaginalis Seropositivity with Advanced Prostate Cancer Risk in the Multiethnic Cohort: A Nested Case-Control Study
a Y. Hernandez The potential involvement of a sexually transmitted agent has been suggested to contribute to the high number of prostate cancers in the United States and worldwide. We investigated the relationship of Trichomonas vaginalis seropositivity with prostate cancer risk in a nested case–control study within the Multiethnic Cohort in Hawaii and California using blood samples collected prior to cancer diagnoses. Incident cases of advanced prostate cancer (intermediate- to high-grade based on Gleason score ≥ 7 and/or disease spread outside the prostate) were matched to controls by age, et...

Comparison of Conventional Methods with Molecular Methods in the Diagnosis of Trichomonas vaginalis and Investigation of Metronidazole Resistance
In this study, it was aimed to compare conventional microscopic and culture methods used in the routine diagnosis of T.vaginalis with polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method and to investigate ntr4 and/or ntr6 gene polymorphism in the nitroreductase gene region, which are thought to be associated with metronidazole resistance in T.vaginalis strains isolated from clinical specimens. Vaginal swab specimens were collected from the posterior fornix of the vagina with two sterile ecuvion sticks during the gynecological examinations of 200 patients who applied to the Balıkesir University Health Practice and Research Hospital, Ob...

Molecular Epidemiology and Associated Risk Factors of Parasites in Oral Cavity of Children with Malignancies in Western Iran
CONCLUSION: Our results showed the high frequency of oral cavity parasites in children who suffering malignancies or receiving treatment by chemotherapy in Lorestan province, Iran. The awareness of the main risk factors for oral cavity parasites particularly using mouthwash is necessary in improving public and oral health strategies in children with cancer. Consequently, oncologist and dental practitioners must be aware to identify and manage oral health concerns in in children who suffering from different types of malignancies to prevent the oral diseases and infections.PMID:37886250 | PMC:PMC10597887 | DOI:10.18502/ijpa....
