IJERPH, Vol. 21, Pages 501: Sexually Transmitted Infections in Adolescents and Young Adults: A Cross Section of Public Health
Conclusions. The literature for other countries reports the need for comprehensive, culturally and developmentally sensitive care to address sexuality-related issues in adolescents and young adults, a need that also applies to Italy. These data will be of great importance in adopting evidence-based STI control programs in Marche Region. This study could, indeed, represent a landmark for public health officials and professionals, with the aim of promoting adolescents’ access to sexual health services to receive useful information, strengthening preventive measures in younger age groups, and designing sexual ed...

< em > Gardnerella vaginalis < /em > : Is it an Underestimated Cause of Urinary Symptoms in Males?
CONCLUSION: With the introduction of multiplex PCR tests, including those for G. vaginalis, we can expect a higher detection rate of these species of bacteria in male genitourinary samples, which could be the cause of unexplained urinary/urethral symptoms.PMID:38633399 | PMC:PMC10986695 | DOI:10.36519/idcm.2022.172 (Source: Herpes)

Aetiological molecular identification of sexually transmitted infections that cause urethral discharge syndrome and genital ulcer disease in Brazilian men: a nationwide study
Conclusion This study provided the acquisition of unprecedented data on the aetiology of UDS and GUD in Brazil, demonstrated the presence of a variety of pathogens in both sample types and reaffirmed the aetiologies known to be most prevalent globally. (Source: Sexually Transmitted Infections)

Case of Haemophilus influenzae urethritis in a male patient
We report a case of H. influenzae urethritis and describe a relatively novel treatment approach. A man presented to Melbourne Sexual Health Centre with a 3-day history of penile discharge and dysuria. He engaged in condomless oral and anal sex with casual male partners in preceding months. On examination, purulent urethral discharge was noted. Urethral microscopy showed Gram-positive bacilli and epithelial cells. Screening for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, Mycoplasma genitalium, Trichomonas vaginalis, HIV and syphilis was performed. He was treated for NGU with a 1-week course of doxycycline. Initial investigations were all negati...

Performing Trichomonas vaginalis culture in research studies in low-resource settings
Trichomonas vaginalis is the most common non-viral sexually transmitted infection (STI) worldwide, with an estimated 156 million new cases per year globally.1 Incidence and prevalence are highest in low-income settings, especially the African region.2 If symptomatic, T. vaginalis causes vaginal discharge and dysuria. Untreated T. vaginalis has been associated with adverse birth outcomes and an increased risk of HIV acquisition and transmission.3 Antimicrobial resistance to 5-nitroimidazole agents such as metronidazole is reported to occur in about 5%–10% of isolates in the USA.4 T. vaginalis can be diagnosed by wet m...

115. Rates of Reinfection for Trichomonas vaginalis in Adolescents and Young adults: an Assessment Following the CDC STI Treatment Guidelines in 2021
In 2021, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) revised the treatment recommendation for Trichomonas vaginalis from a single dose to a 7-day course of metronidazole. Given the high risk of Trichomonas infection in adolescents and young adults (AYA), this study evaluated reinfection rates before and after the change in CDC treatment guidelines.
