Detection of Trichomonas vaginalis by Allplex ™ STI Essential Assay (Seegene) in clinical samples from the Brazilian public health system users
In this report, urine and vaginal discharge samples were analyzed by wet mount, culture examination, and real-time PCR by Allplex ™ (Seegene®) kit, in a population assisted by the Brazilian Public Health System. From 747 samples, 2.81% were positive for TV in wet mount and culture, and 3.88% by Allplex™. Samples kept at − 80 ºC for 22 months did not impair the PCR technique. The sensitivity for wet mount, culture, and Allplex™ was 72, 100, and 100%, respectively. Allplex™ technique showed highest detection of TV. Molecular detection of oral Trichomonas tenax in periodontal disease patients by polymerase chain reaction -based 18S rRNA gene
Trop Biomed. 2023 Sep 1;40(3):307-312. doi: 10.47665/tb.40.3.006.ABSTRACTTrichomonas tenax, an oral flagellated protozoon found in humans, potentially associated with the inflammation of periodontal tissues and decreased immunity that causes the tissue damage and tooth loss from chronic infection. Currently, there is a lack of data regarding the prevalence of T. tenax infection in Thailand. Therefore, this study aimed to measure prevalence of T. tenax in periodontal disease patients by using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to amplify the 18S ribosomal RNA (18S rRNA) gene and to determine the factors associated with the pre...
