Affiliate of Charlotte-based Premier partners with Baxter to make generic drugs more available
ProvideGx, a subsidiary of Charlotte-based Premier Inc. (NASDAQ: PINC), is partnering with Baxter Healthcare Corp. to make generic drugs more readily available.
The partnership will provide a better supply line for metoprolol, a blood pressure medication. Health-care providers have experienced metoprolol shortages since 2016, and by identifying it as an essential medication, Baxter and Premier hope to make it more available to providers at competitive pri ces, according to a press release.

Colorado biotech reports drug test results; shares nosedive
A Westminster biopharmaceutical announced the results of a test of its drug treatment for atrial fibrillation and its shares were plummeting early Monday.
Arca Biopharma Inc. (Nasdaq: ABIO) released the results of a test of its Gencaro treatment for cardiovascular disease. In early Monday trading, its shares were down more than 58 percent, falling 94 cents to 66 cents.
The drug test involved 267 patients who were given either an active control, met oprolol succinate (Toprol-XL) or Gencaro.

(MedPage Today) -- Case Findings: A 50-year old male with family history significant for premature CAD presents with chest pain which started 3 hours ago. Blood pressure 150/90 mm Hg, HR 60/min. EKG in the emergency department is shown (see image below). Successful intervention of the culprit coronary artery is performed with one drug eluting stent. He is started on aspirin, ticagrelor, atorvastatin and metoprolol. Next morning he is found to be hypotensive to SBP 90s. Hemoglobin, creatinine and electrolytes are normal.
