Cancer testis antigen subfamilies: Attractive targets for therapeutic vaccine (Review)
Int J Oncol. 2023 Jun;62(6):71. doi: 10.3892/ijo.2023.5519. Epub 2023 May 5.ABSTRACTCancer‑testis antigen (CTA) is a well‑accepted optimal target library for cancer diagnosis and treatment. Most CTAs are located on the X chromosome and aggregate into large gene families, such as the melanoma antigen, synovial sarcoma X and G antigen families. Members of the CTA subfamily are usually co‑expressed in tumor tissues and share similar structural characteristics and biological functions. As cancer vaccines are recommended to induce specific antitumor responses, CTAs, particularly CTA subfamilies, are widely used in the des...

Primary Synovial Sarcoma of the Nasopharynx in a Case-Case Report
We present a young man with recurrent left-sided nasal congestion with nosebleeds, confirmed by immunohistochemistry and cytogenetic examination as SS. SS is easily misdiagnosed, and the tumor should be considered in the differential diagnosis, with surgery combined with radiotherapy as the primary treatment option.PMID:37129185 | DOI:10.1177/01455613231173452 (Source: Ear, Nose and Throat Journal)

Quantitative proteomic studies addressing unmet clinical needs in sarcoma
Sarcoma is a rare and complex disease comprising over 80 malignant subtypes that is frequently characterized by poor prognosis. Challenges in clinical management include uncertainties in diagnosis and disease classification, limited prognostic and predictive biomarkers, incompletely understood disease heterogeneity among and within subtypes, lack of effective treatment options, and limited progress in identifying new drug targets and novel therapeutics. Proteomics refers to the study of the entire complement of proteins expressed in specific cells or tissues. Advances in proteomics have included the development of quantita...

Cardiac synovial sarcoma masquerading as effusive constrictive pericarditis
We describe an unusual case of a 22-year-old female who presented with complaints of dyspnoea on exertion, palpitations, and chest pain. Trans-thoracic echocardiography was suggestive of a cystic pericardial mass with pericardial effusion anterior and lateral to the right ventricle. Computed tomography scan (CT scan) revealed thick-walled predominantly cystic lesion over the left ventricle with gross pericardial effusion with internal septations. These findings were suggestive of an infected pericardial cyst. Upon surgery, an adherent mass in the pericardial cavity was found which was not separable from the right heart str...

Whole ‐exome sequencing in primary pulmonary synovial sarcoma misdiagnosed as mesothelioma: A case report and literature review
In this study, we report the case of a 38-year-old woman who was misdiagnosed with pleural mesothelioma and finally endured surgery to remove the tumor. The tumor showed SYT-SSX fusion transcripts and was diagnosed as PPSS by combining histopathological and immunohistochemical analyses. The patient was treated with anlotinib after surgery and had a good response, but subsequently, drug resistance developed, and the disease progressed. Finally, we determined some biomarkers through whole-exome sequencing (WES) to improve the diagnosis and treatment strategies. AbstractSynovial sarcoma is a highly malignant tumor that accoun...

Real-world outcomes of pazopanib in metastatic soft tissue sarcoma: a retrospective Turkish oncology group (TOG) study
CONCLUSION: Pazopanib is effective and well-tolerated in treatment of non-adipocytic metastatic STS. Its earlier use (at second-line), good performance status may result in better outcomes. Worldwide scientific collaborations are important to gain knowledge on rarer STS subtypes by conducting studies in larger patient populations.PMID:37067546 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-04766-3 (Source: Cancer Control)

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 2287: Current Landscape of Immunotherapy for Advanced Sarcoma
a Ángeles Vaz There is substantial heterogeneity between different subtypes of sarcoma regarding their biological behavior and microenvironment, which impacts their responsiveness to immunotherapy. Alveolar soft-part sarcoma, synovial sarcoma and undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma show higher immunogenicity and better responses to checkpoint inhibitors. Combination strategies adding immunotherapy to chemotherapy and/or tyrosine–kinase inhibitors globally seem superior to single-agent schemes. Therapeutic vaccines and different forms of adoptive cell therapy, mainly engineered TCRs, CAR-T cells and TIL...

Synovial sarcoma in the buttocks: an exceptional location - case report according to SCARE guidelines
CONCLUSION: Our case enriches the poor literature on intergluteal synovial sarcoma, where less than 10 similar reports are available. We hope through our presentation to highlight this exceptional etiology of gluteal tumor and to recall that there is no relationship between the name of this tumor and the synovium as an anatomical entity.PMID:37008169 | PMC:PMC10060098 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000000232 (Source: Annals of Medicine)
