Syphilis Treatment Among People Who Are Pregnant in Six U.S. States, 2018-2021
CONCLUSION: In this surveillance cohort, people without timely prenatal care had the highest risk for syphilis treatment inadequacy; however, almost a third of people who received timely prenatal care were not adequately treated. These findings underscore gaps in syphilis screening and treatment for pregnant people, especially those experiencing substance use and homelessness, and the need for systems-based interventions, such as treatment outside of traditional prenatal care settings.PMID:38626449 | DOI:10.1097/AOG.0000000000005586 (Source: Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Reproductive healthcare seeking behaviour of women of the reproductive age group in an urban resettlement area of district Gautam Buddh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, India
CONCLUSION: The reproductive healthcare seeking behaviour was found to be inadequate, with only 54.1% of symptomatic respondents seeking treatment. Enhanced health awareness sessions can be planned in the short term, and skilled communicators within or outside of the health system in the long term may be deployed to disseminate information in the community regarding sexual and gynaecological morbidities in reproductive age group women and their timely intervention.PMID:38605795 | PMC:PMC11006087 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_1382_23 (Source: Primary Care)

Understanding the influence of the microbiome on childhood infections
Expert Rev Anti Infect Ther. 2024 Apr 12:1-17. doi: 10.1080/14787210.2024.2340664. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: The microbiome is known to have a substantial impact on human health and disease. However, the impacts of the microbiome on immune system development, susceptibility to infectious diseases, and vaccine-elicited immune responses are emerging areas of interest.AREAS COVERED: In this review, we provide an overview of development of the microbiome during childhood. We highlight available data suggesting that the microbiome is critical to maturation of the immune system and modifies susceptibility to a ...
