Identification and responses by nurses to sexual exploitation of young people
CONCLUSION: These findings shed light on sexual exploitation and underscore the significance of a person-centred approach to nursing care that addresses the health and social impacts of sexual exploitation. It emphasises the importance of interagency collaboration and appropriate clinical interventions to effectively support young people at risk. Increased professional development, support, and supervision for nurses are relevant to identifying, responding to, and preventing the sexual exploitation of young people.PMID:38578936 | DOI:10.12968/bjon.2024.33.7.338 (Source: British Journal of Nursing)

< i > Chlamydia trachomatis < /i > and < i > Neisseria gonorrhoeae < /i > rectal infections: Interplay between rectal microbiome, HPV infection and Torquetenovirus
In this study, we explored the interplay at the rectal site betweenC.trachomatis,N.gonorrhoeae, HR-HPV infection, and the anorectal microbiome in a cohort of 92 MSM (47 infected by CT and/or NGvs 45 controls). Moreover, we assessed the presence of Torquetenovirus (TTV), a non-pathogenic endogenous virus, considered as a possible predictor of immune system activation. We found a high prevalence of HR-HPV rectal infections (61%), especially in subjects with a concurrent CT/NG rectal infection (70.2%) and in people living with HIV (84%). In addition, we observed that TTV was more prevalent in subjects with CT/NG rectal infect...

45 years of tetracycline post exposure prophylaxis for STIs and the risk of tetracycline resistance: a systematic review and meta-analysis
There is considerable interest in the use of doxycycline post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) to reduce the incidence of bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STIs). An important concern is that this could sel... (Source: BMC Infectious Diseases)

Novel erectile analyses revealed augmentable penile Lyve-1, the lymphatic marker, expression
CONCLUSIONS: The current in vivo system will potentially contribute to the assessment of penile pathology from a novel viewpoint. In addition, current analyses revealed inducible Lyve-1 expression for LPS injection and the erection state, which requires further analyses on penile lymphatic system.PMID:38566911 | PMC:PMC10985380 | DOI:10.1002/rmb2.12570 (Source: Reproductive Biology)

IJERPH, Vol. 21, Pages 433: Predictors of Condom Use among College Students
This study aims to identify the predictors of condom use among college students. A cross-sectional, correlational, and predictive study was conducted involving a convenience sample of 1946 university students, with an average age of 21 years (20.74 ± 2.32). Pender’s Health Promotion Model (HPM) was used as a conceptual and methodological framework to understand the relationship between the predictors of condom use. An explanatory theoretical model of condom use behavior was established using path analysis. Condom use among young people is infrequent, with only 39.4% of respondents reporting con...

Sexual Health for Transgender and Gender Diverse Individuals
Gynecologists play a critical role in the office evaluation of transgender and gender diverse individuals. This includes the provision of essential healthcare services including the treatment and prevention of human immunodeficiency virus and sexually-transmitted infections and screening for human papillomavirus infection-related diseases and cancers. Caring for patients who identify as transgender or gender diverse (TGD) and who have undergone gender-affirming surgical treatments is challenging due in part to clinical gaps in knowledge resulting from insufficient training and educational resources. A patient-centered appr...

7. National Perspectives of Youth: Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices of Home-based STI Testing
Adolescents are disproportionately affected by STIs and account for approximately half of new STIs annually. Increasing access to testing and treatment could reduce STI transmission rates. Thus, this study sought to understand adolescents ’ perspective of home-based STI testing to improve accessibility and uptake. (Source: Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology)

5. Human Papillomavirus Vaccination Uptake in Adolescent Survivors of Bone Marrow Transplant
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States and can lead to cervical, oropharyngeal, and anogenital dysplasia and malignancy. Vaccination against HPV is recommended for all adolescents but is particularly important in patients with a history of bone marrow transplant (BMT) as they can have higher rates of persistent HPV-related disease or secondary cancers. Because of lost or reduced immunity after BMT, patients who previously received the vaccine must be re-vaccinated after transplant. (Source: Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology)

126. The Sexual and Reproductive Health Concerns of Youth Experiencing Homelessness Presenting to an Urban Pediatric Emergency Department: a descriptive study
Youth experiencing homelessness (YEH) have high rates of both mental and physical health concerns, including a higher rate of sexual assault, pregnancy and STIs as compared to youth in the general population. YEH face multiple barriers in accessing care, resulting in reliance on Emergency Departments (ED). The use of the pediatric ED by YEH in Canada, including for sexual and reproductive (SRH) concerns, is not well described; additionally, there is no Canadian data exploring the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic/lockdown on ED presentations by this population.
