Physicians and Athletic trainers
A lot of people get confused between physicians and Athletic trainers. A combined bachelor’s and master’s degree in athletic training which would be completed in over 5 years. Sports science education can take up to over 7 years on top of an undergraduate program. Now on to jobs, as an athletic trainer you'll prevent injuries, and most importantly you will have the opportunity to treat countless... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Ortho vs Rads
Hi everyone, MS3 here. Coming to the crucial time in third year where I need to start committing to a field as I make my schedule for 4th year. I’ve narrowed it down to radiology and Ortho and I’m struggling a lot to choose. I would say I’m leaning slightly towards ortho right now. I come from a highly regarded school and have a great step score(>260). Research/volunteering is average-below average for ortho. Ortho: Pros: I am a big sports guy, love lifting and I feel restoring function... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I ’m a DO applying to Sports Medicine fellowship...which Family Medicine Boards should I take?
I’m a DO applying to Sports Medicine fellowships. I’m trying to decide which Family Medicine Board exams to take. I’ve spoken with a handful of providers who all recommend different things. Some ABFM, some AOBFP - Some recommended both exams. A CAQ is available down either route (ABFM or AOCSMEC), but is there one that is preferred? Right now my plan is to take both exams so that I can get my CAQ with ABFM and also graduate my residency with FM &OMT. However, I’d prefer to just take 1... Sports CV Questions
Hi everyone, a few questions for the group. On a curriculum vitae from a sports medicine physician: (1) Under the sports coverage area, do you list every single event you cover, or do you group them? (Ex. 1 game at X high school, 1 game at Y high school, 1 game at Z high school or... 3 games of high school football) (2) When do you call yourself the "event physician" or "team physician"? I know events and teams can all have many physicians associated with it, and some even designate the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

syndrome name
Can one of you remind of syndrome name when a patient has an enlarged L5 tranverse process and they catch the L5 nerve with certain movements? Just saw a young wrestler with a normal MRI, but on x-ray he has larger than normal L5 transverse processes and slight L5 weakness and classic L5 dermatome radicular pain. Only gets the leg pain with competitive wrestling, not normal exercise or other movements. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Am I at a disadvantage if I'm not an athlete myself?
I know that a lot of SM docs are former athletes. I am not, but I am still really interested in PCSM. Would this put me at a disadvantage for matching to a fellowship program or getting a job afterward? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

CCOM vs DMU vs TUN vs AZCOM
Hi Everyone, I was hoping for advice on deciding between these schools. I have done quite a bit of research and made multiple pros/cons lists. Ideally, I would like to eventually go into sports medicine (ortho, PM&R or family medicine). I know its more difficult to specialize, and especially match into ortho as a DO but want to keep my options open as much as I can right now. I am not a big fan of the cold lol so that is a drawback for CCOM and DMU but I don't want this to limit me if either... CCOM vs DMU vs TUN vs AZCOM (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Should I join NAMI for a year, or does that look like application fluffing?
Hi everyone, current 3rd year here looking to buff my application for psych by next year. basically I’m thinking about joining NAMI for which I could only volunteer a couple saturdays a month, or should I keep up with my current hobbies which are reading and competing in local tournaments for the sport I play. obviously volunteering forNAMI is great, and I wish I had more time or started to look into this earlier. I am concerned that volunteering for nami a couple times a month for a year... Should I join NAMI for a year, or does that look like application fluffing? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Another 'is this clinical experience?' question...
I work at a sports therapy clinic that works to rehabilitate injured athletes. The clinic conducts very specific and intensive medical massage and stretching treatments that are not "relaxing" or anything like an elective massage except in name. The patients also receive physical therapy exercises/specific treatment plans for upkeep post-treatment, which I help teach them in addition to conducting intakes/histories. Would this be considered a clinical job, since I am working with patients... Another 'is this clinical experience?' question... (Source: Student Doctor Network)
