Career changer, looking for DIY Post-Bacc and timeline advice
I've been lurking here for quite a while, but have never gotten up the nerve to post. I'm a very nontraditional student (graduated from undergrad in 2012) and looking at switching from my current job (in the engineering industry, I am not an engineer) to apply to Medical school. I graduated with a bachelors in Exercise Physiology in 2012, and worked in the fitness/outdoor/cycling industry for years until I switched industries in 2020. I went into college as a pre-med and really thought I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Sports and Pain
Hey everyone, if this has been answered in the past definitely let me know and I can delete. I ultimately want to do Sports Med with my career but understand that it’s hard to swing a fully sports practice so people choose another area to fill the gap ie inpatient rehab, snf, MSK stuff. If I wanted to alternate with sports med and do spine procedures on the other days is this technically what the Sports and Spine fellowship is meant for? Is there a reason I shouldn’t be considering this? As... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How should I list the contact for awards earned at highschool?
I am planning to list some of my awards earned during highschool - I am not sure if I should include these but I am an immigrant and much of my life has been out side of the US, so I think listing these all under one entry won't hurt, especially because I have 7 entries to spare. These awards include winning a science fair competition, winning a science quiz competition and winning a team sports tournament in high school. Should I list these? And if so, how do I go about the contact section... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Need advice on how to do DIY post bacc and clinical shadowing.
Hey guys, I've made a few threads here in the past but I am once again in need of more advice from you great people. I'm currently working and waiting to pursue a DIY post-bacc next August. I graduated in 2018 with a 3.19 B.S. in Human Physiology. This was mostly due to me doing a D1 sport + being naive about what to do for a major, and then injuring my lower back (herniated disc) severely. My gpa the first two years tanked badly but I managed to push out that final gpa. This injury was... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Office Chair
In the spirit of the preferred pen thread, who's got a good recommendation for an office chair? My home office chair just isn't cutting it. Looking for something that accommodates a good sized frame, 6'1". Mild lower back stuff from old sports injuries/surgery. What's everyone using? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

NYITCOM Old Westbury vs. VCOM Auburn
Hi guys, I’ve just gotten off the waitlist at NYITCOM, and I’m having some trouble deciding between the two. Some things about me to consider are that I live in the New York area, and that my current medical interest lies in pm and r/sports medicine. I’ve know that VCOM is newer and has odd breaks, but has access to the auburn campus and research. I also have also heard that although NYITCOM is older, it has higher attrition rates and a much larger class. Anything I should know about either... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

does writing about sports injury for biggest challenge/obstacle sound silly?
does it come off as very trite/overdone to write about a sports injury, specifically an ACL tear? i know its very basic, and I know it happens to a lot of people but it was super impactful on me and definitely changed my trajectory. I think/hope i can write well about it but i just dont know if adcoms would prefer to see something more "deep" (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Malpractice policy for sports coverage questions
Hi All, Let's say you cover sporting events or teams outside of clinic. 1. Does your normal malpractice policy cover you? 2. If no, who do you use to get malpractice coverage? How much does it cost? 3. Does the team you are covering pay for this policy, or do you? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Academic infraction question ADEA
Hi there! I am applying for dental school, and I am a little confused on the question "Have you ever been disciplined for academic performance (e.g. academic probation, dismissal, suspension, disqualification, etc.) by any college or school?" I have already graduated with a 3.8, 500+ hours dental assisting, Varsity sports, 22AA DAT. I have an open case on a lab worksheet for an academic dishonesty, I thought it could be done as a group because it was a lab and everything was done in... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
