Marked inter-strain heterogeneity in the differential expression of some key stress response and virulence-related genes between planktonic and biofilm cells in Listeria monocytogenes
Int J Food Microbiol. 2023 Feb 13;390:110136. doi: 10.1016/j.ijfoodmicro.2023.110136. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTListeria monocytogenes is a facultatively intracellular pathogenic bacterium that can provoke invasive listeriosis, a severe foodborne infection in humans. Outside the host, this is capable to survive for long periods in soil, and water, as well as on plants, while, like many other microorganisms, this can also attach to abiotic surfaces, such as food contact ones, forming biofilms on them. It has been suggested that inside those sessile communities, L. monocytogenes cells not only display an increased stress...

Fertilization can modify the enantioselective persistence of penthiopyrad in relation to the co-influence on soil ecological health
This study demonstrated that R-(-)-penthiopyrad dissipated faster than S-(+)-penthiopyrad during 120 days. High pH, available nitrogen, invertase activities and reduced available phosphorus, dehydrogenase, urease, catalase activities were situated to benefit removing the concentrations of penthiopyrad and weakening enantioselectivity in soil. With respect to the impact of different fertilizers on soil ecological indicators, vermicompost contributed to enhanced pH. Urea and compound fertilizer played an absolute advantage in promoting available nitrogen. All fertilizers didn't go against available phosphorus. Dehydrogenase ...

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 3629: Exercise-Induced Elevated BDNF Concentration Seems to Prevent Cognitive Impairment after Acute Exposure to Moderate Normobaric Hypoxia among Young Men
askowski Memory impairment, reduced learning ability, decreased concentration, and psychomotor performance can be all signs of deleterious impact of hypoxia on cognitive functioning. In turn, physical exercise can improve performance and enhance cognitive functions. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the potential positive effects of exercise performed under normobaric hypoxia can counteract the negative effects of hypoxia on cognitive function, and whether these changes correlate with brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) concentrations. Seventeen healthy subjects participated in a crossover study...

Influence of omega- 3 fatty acids, soya isoflavones and their combination for abrogating carbon tetrachloride hazards in male rats
Braz J Biol. 2023 Feb 10;84:e266024. doi: 10.1590/1519-6984.266024. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTStudies have shown that carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) induces hepatic and renal damage arising from oxidative stress. The present study was undertaken to examine the effect of omega-3 fatty acids and/or soya isoflavones on CCl4 induced toxicity in male albino rat liver and kidney. For this purpose, 42 rats were divided as follows: group 1, rats serves as the control without any treatment; group 2, rats were administered a single dose of CCl4 intraperitoneally (1 mg/kg b. wt.); group 3, rats were supplemented daily with omega-300 oral...

Andrographolide-Soya-L- α-Phosphatidyl Choline Complex Augmented Solubility and Drug Delivery in Leishmania donovani, a Causative Agent for Cutaneous and Visceral Leishmaniasis
AAPS PharmSciTech. 2023 Jan 26;24(1):46. doi: 10.1208/s12249-023-02507-w.ABSTRACTThe utility of andrographolide (AN) in visceral leishmaniasis (VL) and cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is limited owing to poor solubility, hindered permeation, and unstable structure under physiological conditions. The present study mainly focuses on synthesizing of andrographolide-Soya-L-α-phosphatidyl choline (ANSPC) complex in ethanol and its characterization using various spectral and analytical techniques. Results from FT-IR, 1H NMR, ROSEY, and in silico docking techniques suggest ANSPC complex formation due to inter-molecular interaction ...
