Int J Syst Evol Microbiol. 2023 Aug;73(8). doi: 10.1099/ijsem.0.005981.ABSTRACTRod-shaped Gram-stain-negative, aerobic bacterial strains, designated PC14 and PC15T, were isolated from a forest soil sample collected in Pyeongchang county, Gangwon-do, Republic of Korea. Strains PC14 and PC15T grew at 15-37 °C (optimum, 28-30 °C in tryptone soya agar and Mueller-Hinton agar), hydrolysed chitin and casein, and tolerated pH 8.5 and 2 % (w/v) NaCl. The strains were most closely related to members of the genus Chitinophaga, namely Chitinophaga arvensicola DSM 3695T (98.4 %), Chitinophaga longshanensis Z29T (98.3 %), Chitinophag...

Perceptions, attitudes and beliefs towards soya among healthy Asian women participating in a soya randomised controlled trial
J Nutr Sci. 2023 Jul 5;12:e69. doi: 10.1017/jns.2023.48. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTThe soya-breast cancer risk relationship remains controversial in Asia due to limited and inconsistent research findings and is exacerbated by difficulties in recruiting and retaining participants in intervention trials. Understanding public perceptions towards soya is important for designing effective intervention trials. Here, we administered a close-ended, quantitative survey to healthy, peri- and post-menopausal Asian women in the Malaysian Soy and Mammographic Density (MiSo) Study to assess perception towards soya and explore motivators ...

Centromere/kinetochore is assembled through CENP-C oligomerization
Hara et  al. find that CENP-C, a centromeric protein, is oligomerized through the Cupin domain in its C-terminal region. The oligomerization of the Cupin domain is essential for CENP-C function to localize CCAN proteins to centromeres and assemble kinetochore and centromeric chromatin. (Source: Molecular Cell)

Cardiovascular risk assessment among patients with hypertension based on SCORE2 and SCORE-OP algorithms in black Africans
CONCLUSION: Our study conducted at Abidjan Heart Institute in a young population of patients with hypertension revealed a severe cardiovascular risk profile. Almost half of the patients are classified at very high cardiovascular risk, based on the SCORE2 and SCORE2-OP. The widespread use of these new algorithms for risk stratification should lead to more aggressive management and prevention strategies for hypertension and associated risk factors.PMID:37187110 | DOI:10.1016/j.ancard.2023.101602 (Source: Annales de Cardiologie et d'Angeiologie)
