Mental Health Care Access and Individual Help-Seeking During the Covid-19 Pandemic
Community Ment Health J. 2022 Apr 25. doi: 10.1007/s10597-022-00973-3. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe UJA Covid-19 Jewish Impact Study constitutes a random sample of 4403 adults in Jewish households in the New York area. Collected between February and May 2021, the data include symptoms of depression and anxiety and the use of professional help. Via respondents' zip code tabulation areas (ZCTAs), these data are linked to contextual measures of mental health care access from two data sources: the SAMHSA Locator on specialty community treatment clinics, and the Zip Code Business Patterns database on solo and small group p...

Laparoscopic Sacral Mesh Fixation for Ventral Rectopexy: Clinical Implications From a Cadaver Study
CONCLUSIONS: Tack placement showed significant variation in our specimen, emphasising the need for reliable anatomic landmarks and sufficient exposure during ventral mesh rectopexy. Hypogastric nerve plexus involvement is common, thus detailed functional assessment after surgery is required. It also points out the importance of cadaver studies before implementing new surgical techniques into clinical practice. See Video Abstract at http://links.lww.com/DCR/B827. The Orthodontist's Role in Post-Battlefield Craniomaxillofacial Trauma Reconstruction
CONCLUSIONS: Orthodontics, while available in the military, is underutilized in treating post-warfare or other CMF trauma. There are both system- and patient-limiting factors in the treatment of battlefield and non-battlefield CMF trauma. In addition, there are limitations to the inclusion of orthodontists in CMF trauma care which include the physical distance from primary treating specialists and the absence of standard referral protocols. Oral maxillofacial surgeons reported the highest understanding of the military orthodontist's contribution to a CMF trauma treatment team and medical specialists reported the lowest und...

Good versus poor prescribers: the comparison of prescribing competencies in primary care
CONCLUSION: This study shows that the prescribing performances of PCPs are not rational enough in terms of drug selection and prescription content. Furthermore, even the physicians who have good prescribing practice appear as not satisfactorily rational in compliance with current pharmacotherapy competencies.PMID:35343414 | DOI:10.1017/S1463423622000111 (Source: Primary Care)

Ideological dilemmas of healthcare professionals who do not speak up at interprofessional team meetings
J Interprof Care. 2022 Mar 13:1-10. doi: 10.1080/13561820.2022.2037530. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn healthcare settings, speaking up is considered essential for patient safety. Indeed, voice opportunities are widely available mandatory mechanisms for speaking up at the routine interprofessional team meetings of our study site. Yet, healthcare professionals in team meetings often do not go beyond straightforward reporting of test results and biomedical-functional parameters, suggesting that members with psycho-social information related to the patient are not participating fully in team meetings. Post-meeting interview...

A cross-sectional analysis of trends in dermatology practice size in the United States from 2012 to 2020
The objective of this study was to analyze trends in dermatology practice size from 2012 to 2020 using a large-scale Medicare physician database. We performed a retrospective cross-sectional analysis using 2012 and 2020 data obtained from the Physician Compare Database. Responses from dermatologists were analyzed for trends in practice size, with a sub-analysis to examine differences among different regions, gender, and years of experience. The proportion of dermatologists in solo practice decreased from 26.1% in 2012 to 15.6% in 2020 (p <  0.001). Dermatologists were 40% less likely to be practicing in solo practic...

Determination of trace organic contaminants by a novel mixed-mode online solid-phase extraction coupled to liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry
In this study, a novel mixed-mode online solid-phase extraction (SPE) method was developed to recover miscellaneous trace organic contaminants (TrOCs) from environmental water samples. Six kinds of sorbents, including C18 substances, hypercross-linked polymers (2), cation-exchange resins, anion-exchange resins, and graphitized nonporous carbons, were packed into a single online SPE cartridge. Furthermore, a fully automated analytic method was established by coupling this mixed-mode online SPE with liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (online SPE-LC-MS/MS). Sixty-nine TrOCs with diverse properties were selected to...
