Downstream Impact for Plastic Surgeons in the United States from the “No Surprises Act”
Conclusions: Plastic surgeons in independent solo or small group practices are rendered vulnerable since they may not be able to find coverage of in-patient responsibilities at lower reimbursement rates. Rather than allowing loss of board certification in this population, rational alternatives on an organizational level are proposed for keeping the process equitable as plastic surgeons progress along the practice pathway. Supporting our members and the specialty-building an AAO for all practice modalities
The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) strives to support members in all practice modalities, promote the orthodontic specialty, and support patient and public health and safety. The business of orthodontics is changing. Nonetheless, the goals, initiatives and values of the AAO serve to advocate for every AAO member, whether they practice in an orthodontist-owned solo practice, a group practice, dental support organizations (DSOs), orthodontic support organizations (OSOs), a military health care facility or a hospital. Motivations and Barriers Toward Implementation of a Rectal Cancer Synoptic Operative Report: A Process Evaluation
CONCLUSIONS: The synoptic operative report for rectal cancer was easy to implement and incorporate into workflow, in general, but surgeons remained concerned about additional burden without immediate and tangible value. Despite recognizing benefits, many participants indicated they only implemented the synoptic operative report because it was mandated by the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer. See Video Abstract at http://links.lww.com/DCR/B735 MOTIVACIONES Y BARRERAS HACIA LA IMPLEMENTACIÓN DE UN INFORME OPERATIVO SINÓPTICO DE CÁNCER RECTAL: UNA EVALUACIÓN DEL PROCESO ANTECEDENTES: Se ha dem...

Providing beds for children
An unfolding tragedy eclipsed by the pandemic has passed its most recent milestone. G was placed in foster care with her siblings when she was 4, living with them until the breakdown of her fostering arrangements in 2020, when she was 16. In January 2020, G started to harm herself to the extent that by October she had required 20 hospital admissions arising from the risk that she posed to herself. In May 2020, she was detained for assessment under the Mental Health Act (MHA) 1983. She was described as ‘incredibly complex, avoidant, very difficult to engage’; the psychiatrist considered that inpatient treatment ...

American Association of Clinical Endocrinology And Associazione Medici Endocrinologi Thyroid Nodule Algorithmic Tool
CONCLUSION: TNAPP is a novel interactive web-based tool that uses clinical, imaging, cytologic, and molecular marker data to guide clinical decision making to evaluate and manage thyroid nodules. It may be used as a heuristic tool for evaluating and managing patients with thyroid nodules. It can be adapted to create registries for solo practices, large multispecialty delivery systems, regional and national databases, and research consortiums. Prospective studies are underway to validate TNAPP to determine how it compares with other ultrasound-based classification systems and whether it can improve the care of patients with...

Multinetwork Motor Learning as a Model for Dance in Neurorehabilitation
Adv Exp Med Biol. 2021;1338:239-245. doi: 10.1007/978-3-030-78775-2_29.ABSTRACTWith expanding applications for dance in geriatrics, including rehabilitation and pre-habilitation of neurodegenerative conditions, an examination of how elements of dance may contribute to specific improvements is called for. "Dance" can refer to a vast number of diverse practices; dancing may be rehearsed or improvised, performed with or without music, and may include a wide variety of styles of movement and accompanying sounds; some dances, such as tango and other social dance forms, rely on a partner, while many folk and cultural forms are g...
