Modeling spatial-temporal variability of PM2.5 concentrations in Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) region via functional adaptive density approach
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Oct 6. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-30048-z. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe rapid development of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has led to severe air pollution dominated by PM2.5 concentrations which can cause a profound negative impact on human health and economic activity. This problem poses a critical environmental challenge to efficiently handling large-scale spatial-temporal PM2.5 data in this extended region. Functional data analysis (FDA) technique offers powerful tools that have the potential to enhance the analysis of spatial distributions and temporal dynamic changes in high-dim...

Critical success factors for high routine immunisation performance: a qualitative analysis of interviews and focus groups from Nepal, Senegal, and Zambia
Conclusions Throughout this project, our analysis returned to the importance of defining and understanding the context, governance, financing, and health systems within a country, rather than focusing on any one intervention. This paper augments findings from existing literature by highlighting how contextual factors impact implementation decisions that have led to improvements in childhood vaccine delivery. Findings from this research may help identify transferable lessons and support actionable recommendations to improve national immunisation coverage in other settings. (Source: BMJ Open)

Factors associated with vaccine coverage improvements in Senegal between 2005 and 2019: a quantitative retrospective analysis
Conclusions Childhood vaccination was more likely among children whose mothers had higher literacy, received skilled prenatal care and had perceived ease of access to care when sick. Overall, vaccination coverage is high in Senegal and disparities in coverage between regions have decreased significantly in recent years. (Source: BMJ Open)

Can HIV self-testing reach first-time testers? A telephone survey among self-test end users in C ôte d’Ivoire, Mali, and Senegal
Coverage of HIV testing remains sub-optimal in West Africa. Between 2019 and 2022, the ATLAS program distributed ~400 000 oral HIV self-tests (HIVST) in C ôte d’Ivoire, Mali, and Senegal, prioritising female se... (Source: BMC Infectious Diseases)

Can Self-affirmation Encourage HIV-Prevention? Evidence from Female Sex Workers in Senegal
AbstractWe test an intervention aiming to increase condom usage and HIV testing in a stigmatized population at high risk of contracting HIV: female sex workers (FSWs) in Senegal. Some sex work is legal in Senegal, and condoms and HIV tests are freely available to registered FSWs —but FSWs may be reluctant to get tested and use condoms, in part because doing so would entail acknowledging their risk of contracting HIV and potentially expose them to stigma. Drawing on self-affirmation theory, we hypothesized that reflecting on a source of personal pride would help participan ts acknowledge their risk of HIV, intend to use c...

Density and diversity of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in Anacardium occidentale L. plantations in Senegal
Cashew nut cultivation plays an important socio-economic role in Senegal. However, it suffers from several problems, including declining soil fertility which leads to low productivity. To overcome these constraints, the use of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) could be a sustainable alternative. However, the positive effects of AMFs may depend on their infectious potential, density, and div... (Source: African Journal of Microbiology Research)
