Sclerosing stromal tumor of the ovary in a postmenopausal woman with estrogen excess: A case report
We describe the first case of ovarian SST with estrogen excess with both clinical and serological evidence in a postmenopausal woman. Patient concerns: A 70-year-old female who referred menopause 14 years ago was admitted with postmenopausal bleeding for 3 months. Ultrasonography revealed thickened endometrium of 6 mm and no adnexal masses. An elevated serum estradiol level of 49.78 ng/L was revealed in laboratory examination with normal ranges less than 27.25 ng/L in postmenopausal women. Diagnoses: The final histology diagnosis is SST of left ovary and endometrial hyperplasia with polyps. Interventions: Laparo...

An Epithelioid Smooth Muscle Neoplasm Mimicking a Signet Ring Cell Carcinoma in the Ovary
A 53-yr-old woman who presented with elevated renal indices was discovered to have a 4.5 cm right renal mass and an incidental 9.7 cm left ovarian mass on imaging studies. She underwent a partial nephrectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, revealing a chromophobe renal cell carcinoma and an unusual ovarian neoplasm with epithelioid cells displaying prominent signet ring cell-like morphology. Immunohistochemical analysis of the ovarian neoplasm demonstrated that the tumor cells were diffusely immunoreactive for smooth muscle markers and negative for all tested cytokeratins and epithelial membrane antigen. On the ba...

Ovarian Sex Cord-Stromal Tumors: Reflections on a 40-Year Experience With a Fascinating Group of Tumors, Including Comments on the Seminal Observations of Robert E. Scully, MD.
CONCLUSIONS.—: The essay begins with remarks on the oftentimes straightforward stromal tumors of the ovary because the commonest of them, the fibroma, dominates from the viewpoint of case numbers. Then, the sclerosing stromal tumor and the peculiar so-called luteinized thecomas of the type associated with sclerosing peritonitis are discussed in greater detail and their wide spectrum is illustrated. Brief mention is made of 2 rare neoplasms: the ovarian myxoma and signet-ring stromal tumor. Discussion then turns to the more recently recognized intriguing tumor tentatively designated microcystic stromal tumor and the commo...

Sclerosing stromal tumor of the ovary in a perimenopausal woman: a case report.
Authors: Liu SJ, Lv W, Shi M Abstract Sclerosing stromal tumor (SST) is a rare ovarian neoplasia deriving from the sex cord stromal tumor, which occurs usually in the sec- ond and third decades of life. However, the authors report a 46-year old multiparous woman who presented with a cystic-solid left pelvic mass, a large amount of ascites, and elevated serum CA-125, all suggesting a malignant tumor. Surgery was performed and final histopathological diagnosis of the specimen was diagnosed with SST. The authors herein report an extremely rare case of SST with a cystic-solid pelvic mass and a large amount of ...

Different Presentations of Five Rare Cases of Sclerosing Stromal Tumor of the Ovary
AbstractA rare subtype of preceding neoplasm of ovary is sclerosing stromal cell tumor with few presented cases in the literature. In these case series, we describe five cases of ovarian sclerosing stromal cell tumor with different presentations in our department. Interestingly, one of our cases had elevated alfa-fetoprotein. Expression of angiogenic factors in sclerosing stromal tumours of the ovary.
Authors: Hirakawa T, Kawano Y, Mizoguchi C, Nasu K, Narahara H Abstract Sclerosing stromal tumours (SSTs) are rare benign tumours and are generally observed in individuals in their teens to 20 s. Many cases are suspected as malignant tumours pre-operatively, owing to their high vascularity on diagnostic imaging. Herein, we aimed to evaluate the expressions of various angiogenic factors in SSTs. The expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) were examined by immunohistochemical staining. Upon immunohistochemistry, over...
