Is 40 years old too late to start down the path of doctorhood?
TLDR: 40 years old, BA degree (few/old STEM classes), fear of cost & lost wages, but eager to pursue a higher-purpose calling. I'm curious how many of you (or if you know anyone who has) started down the road to become a doctor late in life (and has been successful). I'm 40 now. I only have a liberal arts degree (BA in General Studies in 2019) and a couple science classes which are now over a decade old. My GAP during that degree was 3.9, but I have some older classes... Marriage worth it?
Recently finished training. 35M. Going to be making more than I could ever imagine in salary. Never married, no kids. I'm enjoying the freedom of being single in a coastal city at this time. I'm starting to feel like marriage might be more of a financial risk/potentially mistake at this point. Playing the field has never been easier with dating apps. Am I missing out on life if I decide not to marry or have kids? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Lifestyle vs passion: psych or inpatient peds
Extremely down to the wire on this. Planning on maybe dual applying peds and psych (to do child psych). Have a passion for inpatient peds, but like child psych/adult psych enough to want to do it well. Peds pros: -Love inpatient work and the diversity of the cases -The kids often get better and the families for the most part are very grateful -Really great team environment, very positive environment overall -Always left in a good mood from the shift Peds cons: -Salary, have heard of... Loan Access and Loan Deferment on Internship?
Hello, I'm starting internship this summer and making a long-distance move to attend my internship program. My internship provides a dismal salary and obviously does not cover moving expenses. In light of this financial burden, I am looking for information from others about student loan accessibility and loan deferment options. Although this topic was discussed several years ago, I am looking for an updated discussion and more concrete examples of options. My school/program (state school... Income thread.
Hello, in the vain of the emergency medicine forum, could attendings ballpark their salaries, region, benefits, time off etc. I think it’s important for trainees soon to be graduating to know their worth, and will hopefully help those of us in training to work that much harder, thanks! Federal loan repayment/finance (Resident)
As the payment will be starting soon from October 1st, I wanted to ask what you guys are planning to do.. refinance? Not pay during residency? Pay minimum without refinancing? I've been following white coat investor lately as well and I just wanted to see what everyone's planning, especially because I'm in dilemma. I'm a 1st year resident making ~65K/yr. I have s/o who's willing to help with all other costs and said to use my all residents salary for loan repayment. I'm not sure if I should... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How are Resident IMG ’s paying their healthcare bills ?
The place that I come from has the employees health scheme where a resident pays insurance amount as part of their monthly deductions from their monthly stipend. I wonder what it is like for a Non-US IMG doing their residency in US ? I hear the health care is costly in the US and how are you guys managing it ? Will the salary you get paid is enough to handle health care costs ? TIA (Source: Student Doctor Network)

All NIH-funded human research suspended at Columbia psychiatry
U.S. Watchdog Halts Studies at N.Y. Psychiatric Center After a Subject’s Suicide Human research trials at the New York State Psychiatric Institute at Columbia have been paused while regulators review whether protocols were violated. www.nytimes.com Jeff Lieberman's replacement (interim chair Blair Simpson) was replaced. OT vs SLP
Hi, I'm posting this in both the OT and SLP forums for feedback: Can anyone give me some insight into the pros and cons of OT vs Speech (financial especially)? Background: I’m a pre-OT student but feeling very lost. My college doesn’t really have any other students pursuing OT and my professors don’t know much about it so I am kind of muddling through it without much guidance. When I first looked up OT in NY, I saw salaries that were around $90k. Now a few years later, I’m seeing OTs... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
