General anesthesiology for a little bit after pain fellowship?
Just wondering what the community here thinks about a brief stint in GA after fellowship. It’s been tough finding a decent job and the few positions I thought I had fell through unfortunately. I’m in a position now where I don’t have any more time to take off for interviews. Anyway, I was considering doing gas at my current institution as faculty or MSP/locums. Obviously, there are differences in salary, benefits, and flexibility with these options. Would it look bad or be bad for my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Incoming D1. Student loans??
Hey guys! I’m an incoming D1 and have been conflicted on a few things in terms of finances. Long story short, I will be taking out 350k in loans (420k post interest). This would have been much more but I have lots of financial support from family in terms of living expenses. Anyways, I crunched some numbers and tried looking at worst possible case scenarios. If I were to avg 150k salary (hopefully I’m low balling) for my first 10 years, and aggressively pay ~60k per year, that leaves me... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Primary Care: First job salary and compensation (survey?) - NY vs LA - 2023
I am finishing FM residency this year and will be looking to start my first job as an independently practicing physician soon. I am looking to settle in the NYC. I understand NYC is an anomaly in regards to pay (and maybe almost everything else...but so is LA). In regards to physician pay, salary is on the low end, which may be a reflection of supply/demand and competition. Yet, on the other hand, the cost-of-living is high. Average rent in the city for March 2023 was ~ $ 5,100 and... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Comparisons Based on Most Recent Salary Survey
As an attending, I know that one of the favorite hobbies of premeds is to imagine their future specialties. And what better way to imagine them by knowing how much cash you'll be rolling in at the end of the day? But one thing that often isn't factored in is how hard you're going to be working for that money, so I've put together a helpful chart to give you an idea of how much cash you're going to be pulling per hour of work once you cross the golden gates of admission. Data is taken from... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Salary vs. Experience
In my past life as a software engineer, salaries heavily depended on years of experience (yoe). For example, at my company I started at x, while my senior engineers with 10 yoe were making 2x. As far as I've seen in medicine, this isn't really the case. Sure, there may be correlations, such as if you've been working longer you may be more likely to be a partner, meaning you make more. But other than that, I don't see any increase in pay based on yoe... the only other meaningful increase... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Slay the CMGs: let ’s write the playbook
12 years experience, both academic and community. I was part of an SDG gobbled up by a CMG at about 3x earnings. I did not receive much of a windfall (about 6 months salary). On the other hand, our group director and his immediate group of sycophants continued regional roles, begging us to drink the KoolAid until their full complement of shares vest. These people will never need to work again regardless of what goes down as they had multiple cash-out ladder steps along the way even without... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Salaries for non-ACGME fellowship in CT surgery
Does anyone know roughly speaking how much super fellowships in non-ACGME cardiac sub-specialties pay? Is it typically equivalent to a PGY 7-9 salary at that institution or is it less? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What goes into a comparable RVU $value?
My PP tells potential candidates that we earn approximately $35/rvu. This is based on payor mix at all the institutions we service. Doing the math, and assuming generating 10k RVU/year, the salary doesn’t look competitive. we also get a bit more revenue from our hospitals that we use for call stipends and overhead and this drives up our income and makes the salary much more competitive than what $35/rvu would indicate. so my question is: what goes into your RVU number? is it strictly a... USACS admins make 500K salaries
So for all the USACS docs there's a medical director who's currently bragging online about his compensation including the fact that he takes luxury vacations every month and has an extensive collection of custom made rolex watches. Two Fellowships
What are people's thoughts on doing two fellowships? My initial thought was that doing one (addiction) might make me a more competitive candidate for a second (e.g. consult-liaison); more experience, skills, maybe opening doors at a more prestigious institution/program than I would be able to attain right out of residency ... but I also wonder whether this would make me look indecisive and effectively less competitive? I'm not as concerned about the opportunity cost of delaying attending salary. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Additional income for OMT?
Does anyone have an idea of how much extra income a DO FP could generate by incorporating some OMT into their practice? I know the average salary for an FP is around 120K, and I was wondering if an active DO using OMT could reasonably increase this. I'm not talking about a basing a practice solely on OMT, just treating patients who could benefit from it or request it. Any ancedotes or personal experience would be really appreciated!
