What was your first year salary after residency?
We've had a lot of discussion about low wages and salaries, especially right out of residency. I wanted to poll and ask these three questions. 1. What was your first year salary? 2. What is your current salary? 3. How many years out of residency are you? I wish I could combine these questions in one poll here on SDN. The results of the poll don't show user names. Please be honest with your responses. Thanks (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Private practice cardiology
Anyone have experience in private practice cardiology? Would love to hear some perspectives. Also if anyone has experienced both PP and academic medicine, would like to heart the differences, pros/cons. Factors such as salary, lifestyle, workload. I hear that more practices are hospital owned these days. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Jobs in Heme Malignancies
Hi everyone, currently a fellow at a more academic focused program and really liking malignant heme. Was hoping to get some insight on what kind of jobs are available for this disease group. I'm more familiar with large academic institutions, you can be on a research track vs more clinical track - but the salaries are potentially 200-300 depending on location but benefit is likely more specialization. I like research but would be happy with a more clinically focused career. Was wondering if... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Academic Podiatrist
So a big time university offered me a salary of 140k with full benefits and a little salary bump per year However I’m making 200k per year now working for a family physician. Sounds like an easy decision however I don’t know how long this family physician will practice for and I don’t want to be too dependent on him. What would you guys do? How do you know when associates are getting screwed
Hi all I’m in the process of renegotiating some terms and I’m trying to understand…as an associate, how do you know when you’re being taken advantage of? What I’m told is, whatever salary you want, should be justified be having a production value of 3x that number (eg. 100k salary should be justified by 300k collections , 200k by 600k etc)..is this true? Some of it doesn’t make sense because my understanding is that overhead for associates is 40%…maybe 50% at the most. So if you’re truly... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Big raise feel nothing
I was given a 30k raise today in my base salary. I’m employed by one of two big hospital systems in my area. They’ve treated me well. What surprised me is I really didn’t care about the raise. I’ve been wanting to practice with full autonomy for quite some time. I want to do therapy with the majority of my patients. Right now, it’s the minority. When I was told about my raise I was also told about a push for more access. This means pushing to see patients for short intervals then... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What salary to expect for pediatric dentistry?
Currently a peds resident, I’m wondering if there is any data on salary ranges for peds? What’s a normal starting and what can you get up to? What are most peoples schedules like? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Why do people complain about $50/hr wage? That is $100k a year?
People are saying pay for pharmacy is bad, but a six figure salary for a medium stress job is pretty good, especially since a residency is not required. For example, investment bankers in New York are only getting paid $150k, but work nearly double the number of hours in a high cost of living area. My friends graduating with comp sci and engineering degrees are only making $70k, MD residents are getting paid less than minimum wage when taking into account hours worked+overtime (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Podiatry vs Optometry
I have currently looking into both podiatry and optometry and was wondering which career has the better outlook and return. Podiatry takes 4 years and then 3 years residency with job posting shows anywhere from 90k to 180k in salaries while optometry is 4 years and has an optional residency with job posting anywhere from 150-200k. It looks like both cost around 200k in tuition. I know with podiatry you can do surgery and optometry recently is having scope expansions across the states... Post-pandemic cardiology salary
I know there are threads from the past about salary, but I'm more interested in the salary trend in 2022 coming out of the pandemic. There are all sorts of pressures that affect salary from supply and demand dynamics to decisions made at the federal level in the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) agency. I've heard speculation by colleagues that is both favorable and unfavorable for our future salary. I'm interested in your thoughts and your salaries. I graduated fellowship... Private practice + pregnancy
Hi, all! I was planning to finally start a cash-based PP over the next few months--I've got side gigs with stable income coming in, savings, paid down a ton of student loan debt, and my partner has a good salary. So finally stable footing and just found out I am pregnant (very happy news!) and now not sure what to do. Does it make sense to try to start this, knowing I will take a maternity leave summer 2023? I just have no idea who would cover my patients while I'm out for that long, etc... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Hematology / Oncology RVU comp
Wanted to get a general feel of the numbers. I am getting reimbursed at $84 per RVU. Location is in non-metro part of California. Compensation is RVU based only, i.e. there is no base salary. I get $84 for all the RVUs. I total between 7000 and 11000 RVUs in a year depending on various factors. Recently, I heard from another colleague in one of the top 2 CA metros that they are reimbursing at $105. I was taken aback since I assumed metros will pay less than non-metros. I want to ensure... Inpatient billing codes and reimbursement
As I mentioned in another thread, I feel like the outpatient side gets a lot of talk. However inpatient reimbursement feel like more of an unknown to me. Was hoping those in the know could share what their reimbursement is looking like on the inpatient side in they're specific locale. Hopefully this will give those of us who are considering doing our own billings what to expect. Alternatively, for those taking employed jobs, this may help expose poor salary offers. Either way I think the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
