Infant body composition: A comprehensive overview of assessment techniques, nutrition factors, and health outcomes
Nutr Clin Pract. 2023 Oct;38 Suppl 2:S7-S27. doi: 10.1002/ncp.11059.ABSTRACTBody composition assessment is a valuable tool for clinical assessment and research that has implications for long-term health. Unlike traditional measurements such as anthropometrics or body mass index, body composition assessments provide more accurate measures of body fatness and lean mass. Moreover, depending on the technique, they can offer insight into regional body composition, bone mineral density, and brown adipose tissue. Various methods of body composition assessment exist, including air displacement plethysmography, dual-energy x-ray ab...

Assessment of brainstem function and haemodynamics by MRI: challenges and clinical prospects
Br J Radiol. 2023 Sep 18:20220940. doi: 10.1259/bjr.20220940. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMRI offers techniques for non-invasively measuring a range of aspects of brain tissue function. Blood oxygenation level dependent (BOLD) functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is widely used to assess neural activity, based on the brain's haemodynamic response, while arterial spin labelling (ASL) MRI is a non-invasive method of quantitatively mapping cerebral perfusion. Both techniques can be applied to measure cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR), an important marker of the health of the cerebrovascular system. BOLD, ASL and CVR ...

Relationship between seminal vesicle displacement and distribution of hydrogel spacer within the perirectal space in prostate radiotherapy
In conclusion, SV cranial displacement was influenced by HS lateral distribution of ≥1.00 cm in the upper two slices. Therefore, when the sigmoid colon or small bowel is depressed in rectovesical excavation and SV needs to be included in the target volume, HS insertion should be performed carefully.PMID:37719041 | PMC:PMC10502802 | DOI:10.3892/mco.2023.2674

mpMRI-targeted biopsy of the prostate in men ≥ 75 years. 7-year report from a high-volume referral center
CONCLUSION: After evaluation of a large patient cohort, we show that age≥75 years represents a significant risk factor for the detection of clinically significant prostate cancer. Further studies on mid- and long term outcome are necessary to draw conclusions for clinical decision making in this patient cohort.PMID:37718788 | DOI:10.3233/CH-238101

Artificial intelligence in breast imaging: potentials and challenges
Phys Med Biol. 2023 Sep 18. doi: 10.1088/1361-6560/acfade. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBreast cancer, which is the most common type of malignant tumor among humans, is a leading cause of death in females. Standard treatment strategies, including neoadjuvant chemotherapy, surgery, postoperative chemotherapy, targeted therapy, endocrine therapy, and radiotherapy, are tailored for individual patients. Such personalized therapies have tremendously reduced the threat of breast cancer in females. Furthermore, early imaging screening plays an important role in reducing the treatment cycle and improving breast cancer prognosis. ...

Visual cortex repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) reversing neurodevelopmental impairments in adolescents with major psychiatric disorders (MPDs): A cross-species translational study
CONCLUSION: Visual cortex rTMS was proven to be an effective treatment for adolescent MPDs, and the underlying neural and molecular mechanisms were uncovered. Our study provides translational evidence for therapeutics targeting the neurodevelopmental factor in MPDs.PMID:37721197 | DOI:10.1111/cns.14427

Bone marrow edema at ligament insertion is an accurate MRI sign of deltoid ligament injury
CONCLUSION: BMELI can reliably indicate concomitant injury to the DL in CAI patients. Using BMELI as a sign of chronic DL injury when ALMC is unclear may reduce the risk of a false negative diagnosis.PMID:37722764 | DOI:10.1177/02841851231197508

Baseline prostate health index risk category and risk category changes during active surveillance predict grade reclassification
CONCLUSIONS: Baseline PHI risk category and PHI changes over time were both independent predictors of GR after confirmatory biopsy, but the added benefit over PSAD seemed modest. However, baseline PHI and PHI risk category changes provided clinically useful risk stratification for time to GR, so further evaluation of PHI's ability to help reduce the frequency of mpMRI and/or surveillance biopsies with more PHI data points over time may be warranted.PMID:37722985 | DOI:10.1016/j.urolonc.2023.08.011

Diseases of the Coronary Microcirculation: Diagnosis and Treatment
CONCLUSION: Approximately 25% of patients with CMD have symptoms that do not respond to intensive treatment with the currently available modalities. New treatments, including interventional therapies, are being studied. Their long-term benefit remains to be assessed and compared to that of the existing methods.PMID:37721132 | DOI:10.3238/arztebl.m2023.0205

The Value of < sup > 18 < /sup > F-FDG PET/MRI in Detecting Lumbar Radiculopathy for Selective Percutaneous Endoscopic Discectomy: a Case Report
Nucl Med Mol Imaging. 2023 Oct;57(5):247-250. doi: 10.1007/s13139-023-00797-3. Epub 2023 Mar 29.ABSTRACTMagnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the most popular imaging modality for investigating intervertebral disc herniation. However, it has a high chance for identifying incidental findings that are morphologically or structurally abnormal but not responsible for patients' symptoms. Although a previous study suggested that 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI) may help identify neuroinflammation in lumbar radiculopathy, there is currently no direct evidence obtaine...

Radiation-dependent demyelination in normal appearing white matter in glioma patients, determined using quantitative magnetic resonance imaging
CONCLUSION: In the long-term follow-up for glioma patients, qMRI is a powerful tool for detecting small changes, such as a decrease of myelin concentration, in NAWM after CRT.PMID:37720464 | PMC:PMC10500023 | DOI:10.1016/j.phro.2023.100451

Distinct serum GDNF coupling with brain structural and functional changes underlies cognitive status in Parkinson's disease
CONCLUSION: Our findings reveal that the topological features of brain networks and cortical thickness are altered in PD patients with cognitive deficits. The above change, accompanied by the serum GDNF, may have merit as a diagnosis marker for PD and, arguably, cognition status.PMID:37718594 | DOI:10.1111/cns.14461
