Determinants of physical activity maintenance and the acceptability of a remote coaching intervention following supervised exercise oncology rehabilitation: a qualitative study
CONCLUSIONS: Cancer survivors considered remote coaching acceptable to stimulate PA maintenance following supervised rehabilitation. Interventions should focus on increasing accountability, self-efficacy, forming habits, and helping cancer survivors to overcome barriers.IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS: The ability to maintain PA beyond supervised exercise oncology programs depends on many determinants. Remote coaching interventions have potential to target individually relevant determinants following exercise programs in cancer survivors.PMID:37733263 | DOI:10.1007/s11764-023-01455-5

CD4 levels and NSCLC metastasis: the benefits of maintaining moderate levels
CONCLUSIONS: A threshold effect is shown to exist between the peripheral blood CD4 and distant metastasis in NSCLC patients. It was revealed that the risk of distant metastasis is lower when CD4 is maintained between 32 and 44%, whereas low (< 32%) or high (> 44) levels of CD4 are associated with an increased risk of distant metastasis in NSCLC patients.PMID:37733240 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-05418-2

Transcriptomics Meta-Analysis Reveals Phagosome and Innate Immune System Dysfunction as Potential Mechanisms in the Cortex of Alzheimer's Disease Mouse Strains
J Mol Neurosci. 2023 Sep 21. doi: 10.1007/s12031-023-02152-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTImmune-related pathways can affect the immune system directly, such as the chemokine signaling pathway, or indirectly, such as the phagosome pathway. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is reportedly associated with several immune-related pathways. However, exploring its underlying mechanism is challenging in animal studies because AD mouse strains differentially express immune-related pathway characteristics. To overcome this problem, we performed a meta-analysis to identify significant and consistent immune-related AD pathways that are expre...

Household cooking fuel and gallbladder cancer risk: a multi-centre case-control study in India
CONCLUSION: Biomass burning was associated with a high-risk for GBC and should be considered as a modifiable risk factor for GBC. Clean cooking fuel can potentially mitigate, and a healthy diet can partially reduce the risk among women.PMID:37733135 | DOI:10.1007/s10552-023-01787-8

Identification of a TRP channel-related risk model for predicting prognosis and therapeutic effects of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: We successfully established a highly accurate prognostic model for predicting overall survival and therapeutic effects using TRP channel-related genes.PMID:37733242 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-023-05394-7

Testosterone Replacement Therapy and Cardiovascular Disease: Balancing Safety and Risks in Hypogonadal Men
Curr Cardiol Rep. 2023 Sep 21. doi: 10.1007/s11886-023-01935-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE OF REVIEW: The purpose of this review is to analyze the link between testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) and adverse cardiovascular (CV) events. RECENT FINDINGS: A few published studies suggest a link between TRT and CV events. These studies contained flaws, and many other studies reveal a reduction in CV events. Hypogonadism is associated with increased mortality in men with CVD. TRT in hypogonadal men can improve many CVD risk factors, reduce QT interval prolongation, lead to better outcomes in heart failure patients,...

Development and Characterization of Proteomic Aging Clocks in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) Study
We examined their associations with mortality from all-cause, cardiovascular disease (CVD), cancer, and lower respiratory disease (LRD) using Cox proportional hazards regression in all remaining participants irrespective of health. The model was adjusted for chronological age, smoking, body mass index (BMI), and other confounders. The ARIC PACs had a slightly stronger correlation with chronological age than published PACs in healthy participants at each time point. Associations with mortality were similar for the ARIC and published PACs. For late-life and midlife age acceleration for the ARIC PACs, respectively, hazard rat...

Long-term longitudinal analysis of 4,187 participants reveals new insights into determinants of incident clonal hematopoiesis
medRxiv. 2023 Sep 7:2023.09.05.23295093. doi: 10.1101/2023.09.05.23295093. Preprint.ABSTRACTClonal hematopoiesis (CH), characterized by blood cells predominantly originating from a single mutated hematopoietic stem cell, is linked to diverse aging-related diseases, including hematologic malignancy and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). While CH is common among older adults, the underlying factors driving its development are largely unknown. To address this, we performed whole-exome sequencing on 8,374 blood DNA samples collected from 4,187 Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study (ARIC) participants over a me...

A population-based study on hyperinsulinaemia and arterial stiffness in men with and without abdominal aortic aneurysm
CONCLUSION: In this population-based study hyperinsulinaemia as a marker of insulin resistance, but not hyperglycaemia or aortic stiffness, was associated with AAA and abdominal aortic diameter in 65-year-old men.PMID:37731907 | PMC:PMC10508446 | DOI:10.1097/XCE.0000000000000290

Smoking, immunity, and cardiovascular prognosis: a study of plasma IgE concentration in patients with acute myocardial infarction
CONCLUSION: Cotinine exhibits a positive association with AMI, wherein IgE plays a mediating role. Elevated plasma levels of IgE was positively associated with AMI and poor prognosis, which further confirms the adverse role of smoking on the incidence of AMI and prognosis. (Clinical trial registration: ChiCTR2100053000).PMID:37731521 | PMC:PMC10508960 | DOI:10.3389/fcvm.2023.1174081

Par3L, a polarity protein, promotes M1 macrophage polarization and aggravates atherosclerosis in mice via p65 and ERK activation
In this study, we investigated the roles of the polar protein Par3L in M1 macrophage polarization and atherosclerosis. To induce atherosclerosis, Apoe-/- mice were fed with an atherosclerotic Western diet for 8 or 16 weeks. We showed that Par3L expression was significantly increased in human and mouse atherosclerotic plaques. In primary mouse macrophages, oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL, 50 μg/mL) time-dependently increased Par3L expression. In Apoe-/- mice, adenovirus-mediated Par3L overexpression aggravated atherosclerotic plaque formation accompanied by increased M1 macrophages in atherosclerotic plaques and bo...
